I'm sorry, but I forgot your name. But we played some rounds on GE:S, had a few words about the game. I griped a little about the klobb, and the infinite range. My handle was "Hayes", and while I do have gripes, I didn't get a chance to mention how much I enjoy the game anyway. It's TONS of fun. So much so, I keep going back to it. I think I've played every night this past week.
So thank you. Thank you for such a fun game. I enjoy it greatly, and i'll be waiting eagerly for each release. :-D

It's always nice to see the devs, beta testers, and other staff from this awesome team playing on servers with everyone else. That makes me like them even more.

I sometimes play with some beta testers, like Doc.No and WNxCJL9788. They're from Europe so I cathc them quite often on the servers.

In the 3.1 patch, there will be a very easy way that verifies the person you are playing with actually is a dev. We meant to put this into B3 but it didn't make it.
So no one can impersonate us, lol.

It's no surprise the devs and testers are better than the rest of us, given time many of us will catch up and end up being better than they are.

I played yesterday for the first time all week and wasn't good at all. Finished in the middle of the pack consistently, and only won a few matches. Good to see that people have been practicing. :)
Either that or spawn camping.

For the last couple days I've been able to pwn most people I've played with (a good percentage of the time, anyway). Just one of the many advantages of having "no life".
Mark my words, I will be one of the top players of this mod! I'm obsessed with it! The only thing hindering my obsession is the Golden Gun/ Gold PP7 on the Random Set. But they will be cast into the depths of Hell soon enough, I trust.

It's just too bad people flock to already over-populated servers like fools! And there needs to be more MWGG servers. Grr.

So far the only impersonation I've seen was a troll wearing [GE:S Dev] Nickster. Unfortunately, that was the limit of his wit, so the most he got out of it was a "What's up?" in chat and associated small talk. The troll could've at least treated us to some sort of zombie impersonation or made anti-semetic remarks or played Rick Astley and Duke Nukem over the microphone. I'm afraid our educational system is leaving trolls behind; they don't know how to function in a pub server.

Next time vc, get his steam id (type status into console and take a screen shot) and we will hard code a ban for him.

I did but I forgot had mat_queue_mode 2 set and that prevents screenshot from functioning. (VALVE ftw)
We could ask server hosts to grep their logs. :D

I saw someone in Beta 1 with the name "Nickster", and all he did was jump off the cradle. I just left the server.

So far ive not heard or seen of any impersonating of current devs in order to spread falsities, but this was only our first release back... because there will be more and popularity will grow from strength to strength the amount of people willing to do that would naturally increase.
That "[GE:S Dev] Nickster" on release night was in a server with 5+ devs, we plan to if we can, ban the use of that handle in all GE:S servers. So if your nickname is actually nickster fair warning down the track you should take it out of your friends name :\

Would it be pretty hard to stop the use entirely since the engine uses our friends names?
I dotn think that guy was just a faker they knew how much an insult it would be that makes it worse. some people are just scum.

I wouldn't go that far -- the screenname thing. If someone wants to troll, fine; if they get B& fine. But no innocent player should be affected by coincidence.

I have only have 2 bans on Octopussy server in B3. 1 for racism, 1 for rude, rude comments toward Nickster.

There is only 23 nicksters on the steam community page, and we are only going to ban the ones taking the piss.

You should definitely teach some respect to those pricks. Make a perma-ban from the servers.

I just grepped all my server logs ( I run 3 GE:S servers at the moment, all at Bradley University, you may have seen them =] ) and only came up with one "nicksterthebrickster" who was in my game for a short period of time, used a timed mine against himself a few times, and then left. I'll keep an eye out for such people in the future, and give them a nice perma-ban. That's just un-tasteful at best, and won't be tolerated.

Be careful though devs, i have a cousin who plays occassionally as nickster (because his name is nick) and I would consider it highly unprofessional to ban someone just for the name...of course he doesn't make fun of nickster..but be sure to think rationally about it...if they do act like they are doing it because of GE nickster..then by all means...take him out. But please make sure you don't ban him if you ever see him because of his name. And no he shouldn't have to change his name because of that.

Well dude, I don't think he has any idea about nickster on the dev team. He just downloaded the mod because he saw me playing it and thought it would be fun....I don't see why you have to seem so hostile...i mean..yeah...if he starts to be a complete dick..then yeah..ban his ass. But other then that, I think you should be a little respectful to be blunt. :) *Don't take this offensively wake since you are a great guy*

The best way would be to not ban the "nickster" name, but not allow it to wear a GES tag..
We aren't out to get you, we just want to protect Nickster's honour.

I'm pretty sure you should ban all instances of that name; I would not even give anyone the benefit of the doubt. I have never seen "Nickster" on anyone in my life, and I've played games forever. People are obviously trying to be jerks.

We should be careful with the bans. If someone called Nickster joins a server, we should watch his behavior and then act accordingly. Those that keep killing themselves should be banned definitely (once you kill yourself once, you learn the lesson and you try to avoid it as much as you can); those that behave normally should stay.

Try as I might, I can't understand or think of one appealing thing about being that much of a shithead.
As for banning or not banning the name, I'm stuck on two options.
Either allowing the first four letters and preventing use of the last four, or allowing use if the name and banning those who abuse it.

of course I am not talking about that nickster..the nickster I play with doesn't even do anything like that...and is completely respectful. In fact....I couldn't imagine him doing something like that since we are cousins and really close in our family.
@Lincoln....just because you haven't seen a nickster in your WHOLE LIFE of playing games..doesn't mean they aren't out there so please don't try to make "assumptions" about my cousin being disrespectful just because you haven't even seen a nickster.
Generally, they aren't common but still, I think PPK has the right idea going. If they are disrespectful, ban them for any offense. If they are just playing...they shouldn't be bothered.
