Loyal fans and friends,

It has been more than 7 years since the Alpha 1 build was released to the public. We have had millions of downloads since then, and we’re humbled and honored each and every time a player tells us that we've delivered that nostalgic GoldenEye 64 feeling. Even as the original GE007 audience grows up and new gaming audiences emerge, GoldenEye: Source remains relevant to the gaming world. Since the main demographic for our game, those original GE007 players, are now in their mid 20’s and early 30’s - we have an older, but very unique market. Yet, we are still here. We are still working away, building a game worthy of the name ‘GoldenEye’, but why? For many, this was our first game, our first multiplayer experience. GE007 was the first time you could sit down for hours with your friends and yell at the TV and each other and couldn't wait to do it all over again the next day. GoldenEye Source was our attempt at bringing that experience the PC, for both newcomers and 00 veterans alike.  As long as we can continue to offer a sliver of that same feeling today, we’ll keep working hard to deliver on our original goal. Thanks for your years of dedication and support, and now onto the main subject!

GoldenEye: Source v.4.2.3 is a ‘maintenance’ patch, you could say. Community honed to deliver a great long term service version while we work alongside on our next large release (v4.3). Both have been in development this past year. With long term projects pushed to v4.3 and gameplay enhancing changes pathed to v4.2.3. We are here to announce the download and official change log for v4.2.3.

  • Long term fan and contributor Troy's popular Arsenal and Tournament-Deathmatch gamemodes have been added officially.

  • You can now change the difficulty of bots directly from the create server menu. Additionally added to the new menu is the ever requested 'Turbo Mode' option. No need for custom gamemodes to have the lightning fast gameplay in any of your favorite gamemodes, all now supported natively.

great stuff! thanks for your big effort, see you all tonight!

and hey, for the new players:
if you are looking for that mysterious map called "Scaramanga's funhouse" which was created by some strange maniac for goldeneye source some time ago, please look here or you'll never find out: http://forums.geshl2.com/index.php/topic,7337.msg78781.html

and while we're on the subject, please also check out the custom content section: http://forums.geshl2.com/index.php/board,98.0.html
here you find other great goldeneye stuff, like namajnaG's recreation of the Nightfire map "NF_Power_v3" or new gamemodes created by Troy and WNxEuphonic

Awesome work, As always! I'm always surprised to see how the team is dedicated to keep this game updated and fresh for everyone, Thanks for your unstopped work over the years and the continuation of your dedication over this mod, It's most likely the HL2 mod that has had the most attention and care on a long-term basis, And your efforts do not go unnoticed.
Thanks a lot!

And thanks Cy, Really appreciated! I might as well tune it in here that more Nightfire maps will be available and ready to play in the upcoming months, Since I will have lots of free time to work on those outside of real-life work. I will keep you updated on my thread.

Happy gaming!

Hi, the new update is great, I already played and I think you know it :P. I loved the sniper zoom and everything, but I found some bugs.
The first one is with the new models, if you use D5K (without silencer) and reload, the silencer will pop-up and stay there until you release "r". (thanks to Falko for noticing this). And the silenced one goes down every shot.

The other bug are the reticles, when you aim with a weapon that have zoom, like the AR33, the reticle will appear in a sec more or less. If you reload while zooming, the zoom will go back slowly. And if you aim, reload and release shift, the sight will be there until the animation ends.

I don't know if I'm explaining well, but hope this helps.

Cool bug with the silencer, haha

As for the reticule... it doesn't appear until you have server confirmation that you are in aim mode (fully zoomed, slow movement, precise shots). So lag will affect the time it takes for it to appear. It is a visual representation of when you are actually in aim mode.

It seems like it's from the server, the D5K bug, I joined another one and it was fixed, but when came there again it had the bug, but maybe it's something wrong in the files, too.

The game is way more balanced than it used to, thanks to the increased range of the spawning system.
I might be a little rusty but I couldn't do as many kill streaks as usual ;)
Well, the hitreg was completely off but still, it's great.
I'm sure the newest players will appreciate the game a little more now.

Really enjoyed Arsenal too, hope to see OBIE in the next update.
All in all, it's a little more than a maintenance patch -_'

I want to incorporate more game modes in the next release.

Currently merging in SDK 2013 into our baseline... going smoothly so far, but that means nothing until you hit "compile" hehe

The D5K bug is actually a server bug, I'm hoping to have that fixed soon.

As for the patch, I like it. I played a gamenight just now and I'm already liking the invulnerability time.

@WNxUufje

Please check the auto team settings... there may be interference with one of your mods because when auto team kicks in it restarts the round like 3 times and switches teamplay on and off.

Not sure what could cause that, but I'll look into it.

Great work on the patch! But I'm afraid it has messed with the translations, many lines that were translated are back in English.

Open up the files gesource_english and gesource_spanish that were included in the patch.  Then go through and ensure that the lines match (compare the two and ensure that the Spanish file doesn't have lines that were removed from the English) and translate what was left in English.  After that, post the new translation file either on the wiki or on the forums.  It appears that the english translation file is off on the wiki, so it would be best to do it this way.

Both have the same amount of lines and the same reference line.

Something is off.  I just looked at the Spanish file and there are things translated in there that aren't showing up in game.  I've notified KM.

There are likely misplaced quotation marks that are masking sections of the translation. I pulled the contents of the wiki exactly as they are today, you need to do a close analysis of the files.

I figured it was something like that.
Title: Re: GoldenEye: Source v4.2.3 Release and Downloads
Post by: killermonkey on July 08, 2013, 10:42:22 am
Found the problem:

Line 268:
Code: [Select]
"GE_CharBio_Samedi"	"Nacionalidad: Trinidad\nOcupación: Sicario\nAgencia: Mr. Big\n\n'El hombre que no puede morir". Lo único más siniestro que la risotada de Samedi es su aparente inmortalidad."

Note there is an errant " in the middle of the sentence! that should be escaped: \" or use '

The german translation suffers from the same problem...

Line 676:
Code: [Select]
"GE_MaxPlayers" "Max. Spielerzahl""

EDIT:

This also seems to be plaguing some of the translations: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/200b/index.htm

There are a bunch of these zero-width spaces in the "key" of the translation sequence which will cause a match failure (possible).

EDIT x2:

I wrote a quick python program that scans through all the localization files comparing them to the english version to see if there is anything missing. Here is was I came up with (after fixing the zero-width space issues above):

Code: [Select]
Processing gesource_french.txt...

Didn't find match for SERVER_BOTLEVEL

Processing gesource_german.txt...

Processing gesource_italian.txt...

Processing gesource_polish.txt...

Didn't find match for BOT_LEVEL_EASY
Didn't find match for BOT_LEVEL_HARD
Didn't find match for BOT_LEVEL_MED
Didn't find match for BOT_LEVEL_UBER
Didn't find match for GE_TurboMode
Didn't find match for RoundReport_MatchTitle
Didn't find match for RoundReport_RoundTitle
Didn't find match for SERVER_BOTLEVEL
Didn't find match for SERVER_ROUNDCOUNT
Didn't find match for SERVER_TURBOMODE
Didn't find match for TURBO_MODE_FAST
Didn't find match for TURBO_MODE_LIGHT
Didn't find match for TURBO_MODE_NORM
Didn't find match for TURBO_MODE_SLOW
Didn't find match for TeamMenu_ServerVar
Didn't find match for TeamMenu_Value

Processing gesource_spanish.txt...

Really only thing missing is the french translation for SERVER_BOTLEVEL. The Polish translation is really far off to begin with.

I updated all the wiki translations with the latest versions after corrections for the above issues.

Updated the Polish translation. The polish letters still appear weird, though :-\

The question is, is the text understandable even with the weird letters in it?
We might need to do another revision of the edited Font to correct that.
But we need to make sure it doesn't break stuff in other languages as well.
v4.2 had some issues with ß in the DSMonster font in the german version, too.
I need to check again if it still persists in v4.2.3.

The issue is that some languages use the same letter space for a different character.
So by fixing the font for a certain language it might cause issues in other languages.

Since GES allready supports more languages then some commercial products,
it's quite a task to keep everything working correct.

Maybe at some point we could even need a language patch (simple replacement of the fonts with the other version) for east european languages if the font's are incompatible.

There's a way to make the polish/russians/any non-Latin 1 characters to show correctly, but right now, because of the engine, they only appear in Tahoma font.

Sorry for a late review, but I tried the latest GES update (4.2.3) just now and I have to say I had the most satisfying gaming experience in a source game. The guns fire just about right and the damages have been improved since the previous versions. The feel of the game is perfect. There was no major issues that I have come across recently.

We need more people in the servers.

Great job with the updates and I hope to see new features coming ahead.
