For all the loyal fans out there, we are alive and have some goodies below! Now before we hear "WHEN ARE THE RELEASE DATES!!!1!?1!?!/" just read the whole post. The mod has taken root again, and alot has been getting done behind the scenes. This mod tends to fly under the radar until MOTY (Mod of the Year) awards. We would like to continue the streak of bieng on the top 10. It seems like we are working as a team once again; and have been like this since Killer Monkey's return to land. Each member has contributed their time and boy, it has been a trip to get here. Heres how the team is broken down:

First off, a special thanks to an old developer; Mark Lodle at Moddb.com, hosting the video and doing alot of work in the background!

Runway made by myself (SharpSh00tah) is completed for the next release. The map was in development for 2+ years. It has been commited and finished. Now I am workin on Streets. If everything goes as planned, the map will be huge!

KillerMonkey has been the life behind the mod. He coded everything from scratch (hence the whole point of the BETA3). Now with the addition of two new coders, and a new modeller, work will be going just that much smoother. Next, YOLT and Deathmatch game modes have been completed and work 100%. Also, many guns have been completed and are ingame including;
pp7(s), Klobb, Cougar Mag, DD44, KF7, ZMG, DK5,RCP90, AR33, even the Tazer Boy has emerged! Yes, there is more!

SporkFire has Silo comming along!

Armored Fury is working on the TANK! Looks amazing!

4Tex is working on a suprise! As usual it looks beautiful.

InvertedShadow is workin on Archives Front Zone and Back Zone, They are nearing testing and will be a showcase map!

Well Konrad Beerbaum and KillerMonkey have taken liberty to create the mod's menu's. First pic is the Team selection, make sure to take a look at some of the options, and the brand new layout. The second pic is the character selection. The third and final pic is the scoreboard! All accompanied by the lovely Cougar Magnum that Fourtecks made and animated (yes, he is a strong as Thor's hammer.)

Okay guys, its time for us to ask you for help. We have decided to draft up some "Achievements" that you can unlock during game play in the near future. However, because we are trying to get this release perfect and out the door in a timely manner, we ask you for help.

Heres the plan, we want you to create 64x64pixel icon's that will be placed inside of Konrad's template. There are some requirements, We either need a layerd .PSD file or .tiff with the logo on a seperate layer.

OR you can just give me the logo with a transparent or single color background with out the template background.  Basically the team needs to be able to take the logo separately and apply filters to it.

FYI: The multi-colored icon will be used once you have unlocked the achievement. Inversely, black and white Icon will be used for the locked achievements.

I want to stress the fact that you WILL be credited for ANY and ALL work that WE decide to use for a FINAL release. Next, we may alter your icon after it is received by the development team, you still WILL be credited.

Very, very psyched for BETA 3.

'Tis a good idea to sort of follow the same rule as episodic gaming, as far as releases go.
Smaller things, released more frequently.
Or something to that effect.  ;)

Sounds great. Hopefully, it will attract more people, as for so far I haven't been able to join a server with some people in it.

P.s. will basic bot support (so that they will move through the level, can open doors, know how to pick up and switch weapons, and know how to shoot) be added, or isn't that planned at all? As it would really help the people who can't come online at the right times.

Gun spawn... looks like alpha. :(
Any incentives to get the achievements (like in TF2 or DOD:S)??
How did you tweaked the player collision groups in teamplay?

Map name is a bug introduced by myself, its fixed now :-S (caught me!)

Gun spawns are absolutely coded from scratch and nothing like Alpha or Beta 1.5
Working on incentives, probably not this release
Collision groups are easy

There's no point of releasing achievements w/o incentives, in my opinion. Incentives can be something really simple... an icon near your name on the scoreboard, your name in another color in the hud, etc... nothing that needs hours of coding :)

Well, I unfortunately suck as drawing anything.
Was thinking of a Portal stick figure icon, with the stick in Boris' "I am invincible!" pose.

I would make the stick orange on the outside, black on the inside, with a black background. (Instead of the regular black on white)

Too bad that's beyond my abilities... :'(

By the way, glad you fixed the cougar magnum. In goldeneye 007, that was one of my fav weapon, but in beta 1 and 1.1... well sorry to say that, but it sucked. Now, in beta 3, he look a lot better.

GREAT JOB GUYS!! AMAZING WORK! But I have 2 critiques.

1) It seemed like the movement was a tad slow. I definitely like the goldeneye feel..but watching the video seemed liked walking took forever. Not sure what everyone else thinks.

2) This might be a bug or it might be fraps, but when you were switching between remote mines and the detonator, it gave some weird bug where it would freak out or something. It is almost like you would see the hand go by really quick and then come out. On top of that, seems like the mines throw a little slow..anyone else see this in the video?

Otherwise, no complaints guys. Completely amazing update. Thank you.

Yes!! great job guys...but I have 2 suggestions as well...

1.) Ouromouv should definitley have a hat on since he had it the N64 version and plus it just replicates him more.

2.) Maybe try to do a different fall of the players when they die. For example if they get shot in the back then have them falling down knees first then onto their stomach like the orginal goldeneye..

That way you can see where the fire was coming from (if you didn't know) and it will look a little more professional. Having the die when you just fall over make me sick and will make me sick watching it every time I play. Just another thought :D

Hey, speaking of the death animations, is the jaws ragdoll still messed up? (Couldn't tell from the video)
Also, is the weapon selection menu still going to be orange for the release? I think it would look a lot better if it were a more Goldeneye themed color, such as a semi-transparent green.

Remember guys this is a "proof of concept" media release. Meaning that about 60% of what will be in the final release is in here. It shows that gameplay works, VGUI's work, and that weapons are in game and functional. The last 40% will be dedicated to polishing our existing work (mine anims for example), and completing our new work (End of Round Report, Achievements, etc.).

Thank you for your comments, not all of your questions will be answered, but trust us to make the best decisions for the mod. We promise to release a stable, highly polished, and tested version for Beta 3. That has been my goal ever since I started coding using Orange Box.

Got couple more questions killermonkey,

First of all, will the shotgun make it in beta 3 and will the spread cause the right amount of damage and so on?

Second, are you guys working on a new way of scrolling through weapons picked up? or will it just stay as the orange scroll on the bottom right?

You are awesome killermonkey. I don't expect all my questions to be answered, unless you are willing to. My main hope is just that you think of them and take them into consideration when you guys make a final release. :D Thanks GES team. You guys are the best. :)

Aye, got some question as well, if your willing to answer :P

1- In the vid, I saw that annoying auto switch alpha-like system when you pick a weap (think it was an AR33 in the vid). I am right? If so, is it possible to have some kind of client sided option to disable it?

2- Why not including those noice shiny steam community avatar on the scoreboard?

I think going with two separate skins, one with and without a hat, would fix this up nicely. Choice is always good.

2. I discussed with Konrad whether he wanted the avatars in the scoreboard and it just simply wouldn't work with our layout. As much as I like them, they don't fit into the game either. Maybe they will show up in another VGUI?? (End of Round Report?) we shall see, but don't hold your breath.

I think that this may have been discussed a while ago in another thread, or maybe I'm just daydreaming again, but I think that it would look cool if the weapons selection was a semi-transparent green, with the weapon names written on them, and as you scrolled through the weapons, they would rotate around in a circle formation, and as you got to a third of a circle, they would begin to fade out. (So that it looks like an ingame watch menu sort of)

And yeah, here's a sloppy picture of what I'm trying to explain: So the selections are green, and rotate in a circle. As the circle rotates, weapons will fade off the list as others come in, and the selected weapon with be highlighted in the center.

maybe you could do something like perfect dark and have the weapons around the center area and then when the person holds the button to select the weapon he can either hit w, a, s, and d to pick which way he wants it to go to pick a weapon. Essentially the same way perfect dark was but with some modifications with the keyboard and mouse of course....or just have the mouse movements select the way you pick the weapon.

Agree with "The SSL" about the rotary guns. Also agree about the fade thing.

However, I suggest that it would be better if the selection is the shape of the weapons instead of the names on a green background.

Perhaps how they look on the Bond Watch when you pause.

Which was what I meant, but that would be kind of boring, having them go simply up and down, so why not add some extra flare by having them in a circular formation?

OR even easier, it cold be like the original GE where you don't even have a menu in multiplayer, instead you just scroll up or down on the wheel, and it takes out all the different weapons without a menu.

maybe you could do something like perfect dark and have the weapons around the center area and then when the person holds the button to select the weapon he can either hit w, a, s, and d to pick which way he wants it to go to pick a weapon. Essentially the same way perfect dark was but with some modifications with the keyboard and mouse of course....or just have the mouse movements select the way you pick the weapon.
The problem with it is, you have to stop moving while select a weapon, which is really deadly in this game.
IMO, any kind of ring menu would cause more problems then it could solve.

Those are the two options I'm thinking of.

A) A very small, rotating model of the weapon next to the name. (Like in the pause menu.)

B) Just the name.


The PD thing, while nifty-looking, would be a huge annoyance.

the way you have it now is graphically REALLY sloppy haha but the concept it self seems sound. we might play around with that to see how it feels if we can make it look good.

at the very worst though, we will change the color of the current menu to be more GE64 than HL2.

Just a quick question and forgive me for not going through every thread. Basically are you going to impliment the radar that was in the original goldeneye. To me it was one of Goldeneye 64's distinctive features and a must in my eyes. Then again im not a dev so your ideas may be different.

If implemented, would the radar have upward/downward facing triangles to indicate if a foe is on a higher or lower level than you?
Though that was done in PD``, not GE.

The radar was always one of GE64's plus points. Also campers in big maps like runway sniping away from a distant corner of the map can easily be found. I'm sure thats crushed a few campers dreams :/

Last question, the golden gun...will it be working for the initial release because i intend to set up a GG server. Also all the talk about limiting armor pickups will that be a server side option ?

I just wanted to post to say that so long as this mod is in the works I will always be a supporter! So far the music is wonderful, the achievements are witty, and the characters, menus, and weapons are down-right wicked.

Can't wait for the release of the newest beta...just make sure it's not too early!

It was pointless in GE64 so it depends on how the devs view the weapon. I agree more damage for headshots but id keep the body damage the same for the sniper rifle. You have to think of maps like cradle every person will just grab a sniper rifle and camp at each tower.

Sniper was pointless in GE64. So it should stay pointless in GES. Dont see the point of having a TF2 or CSS-like sniper. This game isn't CSS.

Yeah but whit the old beta 1 hitbox, excuse me but it taked to me a hudge total of 10 headshot on cradle to finaly take down someone whitout an armor. That's way to much,  so what do I want, like you're saying, is more damage for one headshot.

That's only MY opinion, if you guys disagree, it's ok. I don't care, because beta 3 is going to rock anyway :D!!!

I damage shouldn't be as high as css but it definitely should be somewhat higher then it is right now becuse it is a little rediculous. It should be like 4 shots or something because it is, after all, a sniper riffle. However, make sure you don't do the damage like css because that is WAY TOO MUCH. The point is guys, I just would like to see a little bit more damage from that weapon...even if it isnt that much.

The GE64 Sniper Rifle was essentially a Silenced PP7 with a zoom lens, and if you shot enemies anywhere but the head, it took around 3-4 shots to get a kill. The only way to get any use out of it was to use stealth and get headshots from far away, bu was completely useless for close combat because as far as I can remember, the auto-aim didn't work for the Sniper Rifle.

Also, this is just a thought, but I was playing some GE64 over the weekend with my buddies, and noticed that when you shot people repeatedly with weapons, there would be a delay of about 1 second between which I could do damage, with the intervals filled in by my opponent sliding backwards. Is there any chance that any of this will be implemented, such as a possible damage delay, determined by a variable of whether or not players slid around when hit?

What you are referring to is invulnerability. And yes, it is ALREADY implemented! It works great and does not lag at all. When you are hit you get 0.5 seconds of invuln time so that allows you to escape or get cover while getting pelted with bullets  ultimately increasing the amount of time the firefight lasts. You can see this the best in N64 when you blow up a mine and walk into the fire, you won't get damaged but every 0.5 seconds.

This is active in the video, so its not a super effect, but it definitely makes a difference

Man, this is gonna be awesome... I'm a sucker for statistics and interesting achievements.  I have another suggestion: What about tracking how many times you win awards and maybe corresponding achievements, like one for X amount of Most Deadly's, etc.?

I understand that these are relatively minor things compared to the rest of the stuff you guys have to do, but I just wanted to get that out there.

Yeah, words cannot express how badly I want to play this game. I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but I think it would be great if the developers expanded their work and let in more developers to work on a full-port of the single-player game. How awesome would a co-op 007 single player campaign be? Perfect Dark had it.

Well I haven't heard anything either way, but I am reworking Boris at the moment.  He has new arms/hands from a model I did not long ago, and I think his legs are fixed but I am going to relook them over.  I also just re-did the topology around his shoulders and back/butt somewhat and took out some loops.  I also untucked his shirt and fixed some normal issues.

I have a question about normal maps.  Is it even worth the time to do them for Half life 2?  I've read that they don't even work well generally in the game, but I haven't really played around with them in-engine yet.  I mean, does Alyx or any characters in the game use anything besides diffuse and maybe spec?

first off this mod is looking great
but seeing as you're changing the orange W.S. to green because of hl2 if any of you have played opposing force then you will notice that was green i say try a diffrent colour like say... GOLD!

oh also could you possibly make a option to ise the original sounds or the guns some of them like the ak-47 sounded really good

If you're talking about the scoreboard, the reason we made it green was because the equivalent menu in GE64 (the watch menu) was green, so we're trying to retain some of that feel.

Alright, I will use the normal map then on Boris's head again, and probably redo his body normal then I suppose.  I have to get used to Zbrush again, I haven't used that in a while.

It will all be released as a single beta, no dates have been set, but we are working on it and expect to release fairly soon.

The initial idea was to release in smaller chunks, but now it has gotten skewed towards a bigger initial release and patches afterward.  This is mainly because we had so much content already done, there wasn't any reason not to include it.

Dude, chill. It'll be done when it's ready (not to over quote the Duke Nukem Forever team). This project is a huge undertaking. The guys are working hard, rest assured. Yes it's taking some time, but it'll only be better for it in the end. The end result will be high quality. Instead of something along the lines of "Project Goldeneye" for UT2k4 that was a total mess in the end and completely unplayable.

The original had nicely laid out weaponsets, the mod is utilizing these as a base structure and so to release say for instance weapons in "small chunks" as releases just wouldnt be practical. You'd have a slightly incomplete gameplay for *X*month(s) until each patch. The team is pushing to get all guns into the beta3 release for a complete coverage of the weaponsets ; given ALL of the weapons are done artside (in max,maya etc) this is a smart decision for your replay value :D

Further "chunk" releases will be for game-modes, maps and further characters as they get made and tested.

Awesome job! I noticed the Moonraker Laser wasnt in the list. We're going to have all of the weapons right? I mean i'd understand if they weren't in right at the beginning but eventually getting there. Anyway, Looks great. Can't wait for the release!
