Right now chrome being in beta really means it, six months to a year would be the earliest I will probably consider it for personal use; hopefully this wont be a perpetual beta cycle like a lot of Google products. Gmail probably qualifies to be a version two or three, not in the fourth year of vague beta period.

The benchmarks for JavaScript speed look nice though; http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10030888-92.html?part=rss

Yeah I nearly went back to Firefox too because it just felt cozy, and I had the superfluous bells and whistles that made it fun (ads aren't a problem when a browser's so goddamn fast).

chrome = least secure browser ever.

type :% in the address bar.

Also, if there's code to open a 0x0 px window, with a viral exe in it, chrome opens said invisible window and downloads (and then executes) the file without prompting the user.  Security = fail.

Chrome is a secure browser, minus a couple flaws.

In the latest version, :% is fixed (make sure you update).
EXE Files now warn you before they download, as well as the fact that it was a buffer stack overflow. It required the user to try and save the webpage itself. It had to do with excessively long website titles.

Not only that, Chrome Virtualizes every webpage, so damage control is apparent.

I love Chrome - It easily replaced FireFox. I really don't care about the flashy addons - they only slow down the browser. FireFox may be fast compared to what it was, but it doesn't stand a chance against Chrome. Not only that, Chrome has far better memory management. I love the feature of being able to drag a tab off of the browser, into a window of it's own - and I especially love to be able to do that with flash content playing, and not have that content interrupted. It's wonderful for watching something and browsing the web without having to relaunch the process.

Task manager is win. Content heavy sites (such as Digg) were crashing FireFox, too - so it was no problem for me to leave it. Chrome came at a convenient, and has certainly won my heart.

ooh, an update. *downloads*

Well, that fixes the few issues i had with it, so that's cool. but i have a number of really important addons for firefox i can't get in any other browser, so FF is still my main browser for now. Thanks for the heads up about the update though =)

Replacing Firefox sounds like an almost impossible thing to pull off.
Then again, it is Google. ::)

I'll give it a whirl eventually, but I'd probably give it some time to get some more things going for itself.

FireFox does that as well.
I have FireFox 3.

I would expect that chrome is more likely to get people out of IE, since one of it's advantages over Firefox and Safari is that people who would not consider them (probably not hearing of them) might consider google's. Since they advertised the beta on their homepage, If they start doing version releases they might announce that too.

But good news for everyone on speed, the latest builds of webkit (code that will eventually end up in safari) and firefox all look like dramatic improvements, poor IE8 sill looks like no improvement in speed over version 7.
