My wiki account no longer exists, And I can't register a new one, It always says I have entered a bad captcha, Even though I tried about ten times and I am persuaded I've got them right, But I will revise the french version and I will send you the final revision in a PM.

I have the same problem.
Did anyone run some cleanup script on the wiki kicking accounts that didn't post anything since last release while disableing registration of new accounts? Sure feels like it, and there's red error boxes everywhere regardless which action I'm trying to take. Can't log in, can't send new password, can't register anew.

Where are the gameplay hints?
I think it would be a good idea to have them translated as well.

Read the OP ;-)

EDIT: I upgraded the wiki and fixed the captcha... and of course I overwrote our custom stylesheet.... will have to find a backup somewhere

I overworked the german version. but kraid and cooldisguise should also look over it. I don´t know if I should translate those character bios. seems to be fine in english or what do the others think? and I don´t know if the french and the spanish version are correct. the current spanish version is from 2010 and in the history of the french version I don´t see important additions or deletions.
Title: Re: v4.2 Translations
Post by: namajnaG on July 07, 2012, 10:12:50 pm
You don't see important additions in the french version because nearly everything was pretty much perfect in the 4.1 revision (Except for the achievement list, That was terribly bad, Some numbers weren't even right.)
The french version simply needed polishing of things that we're incorrect, All game mode descriptions/help pop-ups we're already good.
I double-checked the spelling on everything, Added the new lines and translated them and fixed every typo as well as polishing grammar on several assets.

Trust me, The french version is near perfect, If not entirely.

Are you interested in an Italian translation of the game?

If you are, could please tell me how I have to do to create the translation file?
Title: Re: v4.2 Translations
Post by: The Cy on July 08, 2012, 08:45:00 am
@namajnaG: there are definetely some things missing, because I don´t see any character bios in your version. or the lines // Teammate name indicator, // Spectator Titles or // Scoreboard Titles. it looks like you only changed some words, like point to points or hit to coup. when you click on the first link killermonkey has posted, the new stuff for 4.2 is green coloured. sometimes he added stuff and sometimes he deleted lines. now you have to transport those green coloured  changes into your french version and should translate them. in the end the whole script of the french version should be structered like the english version.
Title: Re: v4.2 Translations
Post by: namajnaG on July 08, 2012, 09:38:37 am
And what would you mean by the script being structured like the English version, Precisely? I can rework it if really neccesary.
As for the character biographies, I haven't written them in, My mistake, I'm on it.

so that all the green marked changes from the english original are in your version as well. so you have to put the new single lines into your french version. and then you can translate it.

that goes for any version. first put the new english lines into your spanish / dutch / italian text, then translate it.

Post by: namajnaG on July 08, 2012, 10:11:33 am
All those new gameplay related elements are already in the revision I posted, Nothing else was missing apart from character biographies and three extra lines. I have added them to the page, Thanks for noticing me! EDIT : Still missing out a few things, They will be added in the next few minutes.

I noticed it. but now look into your //Team Selection Menu-section. there are still some things in it, that don´t belong there anymore.the same with the section
"Playerid_diffteam". I don´t wanna offend you, I just wanna help you to get your translation files right.

@Matteobin007

Please translate the following link to italian: http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Gesource_italian
You will need to register a wiki account first (top right corner), then click "EDIT" in the top right corner.

Only translate the text to the RIGHT of the key/value pairs, example:

"Game_connected"   "%s1 has connected"

would be

"Game_connected"   "%s1 è collegato"

I was checking the translation, when I found a sentence that I'm not sure if I understood it properly...

Could you please tell me the meaning of this?

"GES_GP_CTK_CAPTURE_OVR"    "Capture Override:"

It is for the onscreen message and progress bar when you are forced to wait to capture the key/briefcase. Another way to put it would be "Capture Blocked"

Title: Re: v4.2 Translations

I think you have to create this page: http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Gesource_polish (http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Gesource_polish) for Polish, and copy over the English version to translate.

EDIT01: English page: http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php?title=Gesource_english&action=historysubmit&diff=4851&oldid=3792

EDIT: I haven't found the changes from terps4life90, so I went ahead and added the new lines, and edited a few others.

How can I add the Italian Gameui and Mp3player?
Create the page: http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Gameui_italian (http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Gameui_italian) and Paste this page over it and translate it: http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Gameui_english (http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Gameui_english).
For Mp3player create: http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Mp3player_italian (http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Mp3player_italian) and paste the translation of: http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Mp3player_portuguese (http://wiki.geshl2.com/index.php/Mp3player_portuguese)

All of them seem to suffer from it, except in the menu, I think its the Trebuchet MS font which is ok. The rest not working are Adventure Subtitles, aescrawl, Canarsie Slab JL, and DS Moster.
Title: Re: v4.2 Translations

That's because these characters are not included in the font itself.
This is a very common issue with a lot of custom fonts, especially the ones that are more decorative nature.

We've allready added some missing characters for german, french and other languages.
To fix this issue in your language, we need to edit the fonts again and add the missing characters.

I'm not even sure who did it last time, but in know i tried something with a font editing program somewhen.

*Raises the hand*.

I'll need a full list of Polish-needed accents and characters. If you wan't me to do something like a full reshape, such as cyrillic, it's best to find something else, if it's just adding accents, I'll be able to do so.

Here's release 2 of the European fonts.
Updates:
 - Changed the way the original EFIGS accents are used, the fonts should have less KB.
 - Added Polish accent support. And other characters that used the current accents. Please tell me if something's missing or wrong (Probably the German B's).

Test them througly so there's no characters missing. Thank you.

Fixed that missing letter, added Unicode support to two of the fonts.

It is important that you know that you can't directly paste these fonts onto the folder. You have to remove the " - Euro" part and replace the originals.

I did remove the  " - Euro"  part and replace all the files.

Edit2: Some things seem to work (it's like this without the files too), like the menus and achievements, but the rest isn't working, like the scoreboard and identity select, also, more screens:

In order to see all the goods in these fonts you will have to modify the ClientScheme.res, TeamMenuScheme.res, and SourceScheme.res in the resource folder. Go through the files and look for where it says:

"range"      "0x0000 0x007F"   //   Basic Latin

DELETE THIS LINE WHEREVER IT OCCURS

Then the font will render past character 128

What's "Strange"? Trebuchet MS is a standard Windows font. If it's wrong, it can be fixed.

EDIT: Hope you don't mind if I remind of some graphics with text embedded that could have a little "de-graphic". Like, "OHMSS PROFILE" (VGUI/charselect/folder), "OMHSS: AFTER ACTION REPORT" (VGUI/roundreport/background_FFA and background_team).

Well, the Source Engine not only reads the TTFs located in the game directory, it also takes the fonts from Windows itself. And I remember that the "official" achievement lists of Source (Check Team Fortress 2 and the HL2 games) had the exact same font.

Well, on Perfect Dark: Source, we duplicated each line that had the singular/plural variable. That's the best option for most of the languages.

There's a technical problem with this line:
"GES_GP_TDM_FRAGS_LEFT"      "%s1 ^1needs ^y%s2 ^1more frag%s3."

There's no way to edit it in a correct way to have the Italian plural of the word "frag".

In Italian the word changes and you can't just add a letter at the end of the word to make it plural.

P.S.
Thank you for the answer killermonkey.  :-D

I will work on something in the coming days. The one already in place, from 4.1, is pretty darn good already, even coming from Portuguese from Brazil (the differences are irrelevant, if you ask me - I dunno why I sounded so anal about those same changes before, especially now with the new orthographic agreement or how the hell you translate that to Her Majesty's language...)

%s1 represents the first string in Python.
Title: Re: v4.2 Translations
Post by: killermonkey on July 24, 2012, 11:38:28 pm
%s1, %s2, .... %s[n] refers to the "input text" that the localization can take. Similar to how printf works in C... except only strings are allowed.

This allows us to have translated sentences that include numbers and stuff.

For the example you cited, it forms an introduction to the following tip. Example:

"Radar Tip:"
"Weak Weapons Tip:"
etc.

So all you have to translate is the "Tip" part... then translate the titles below that separately.

You should add a function which would reduce the font's size when a word is too long, or just make it so that there is a limit of the letters in the quotation marks, so that one can shorten the word with a dot, the 3 dots at the end aren't as clear.

Loading screens: I understand we can't translate the map's name (Except with Unknown Map), but can we translate the Location line? Thank you.

The new Create Server's not translatable at the 4.2 release current state, but that's something that can be fixed. Here's a pastie with both the translatable res file and the lines that you need to add into the gesource_english.txt and gesource_spanish.txt file.

I haven't found the strings "<Random Map>", "<Random Scenario>", "<Random Set>", but I've added them on the translations section on a temporary basis, as the last Steam update messed with my GE:S copy.

No tip about long jumping.
Animation for long jumping not smooth (Ctrl + Space bar)
Sometimes the Crosshair appears on the left (http://i.imgur.com/PP6Rk.jpg) (don't know how to replicate...)
Not enough Polish forms for the tips, in Polish 'Radar' alters to 'Radarze' when 'about' is before it, it shows 'Radarze' when you die because of it, I suggest make it like with the English 'a' and 'an' and put there the Polish forms like 'Radarze'.

Missing translations:
^Everything what VGF said, Weapon Sets, Spectator (under Join Game), Don't show this help again, Play

Added this to the Noticeable bugs thread.

On the german translation allmost everything seems fine so far, only two issues i recognized:
The ß is replaced by a horizontally flipped R now in DS Moster.
A few text cut offs here and there.

While the first issue should be fixed whenever the font is edited once again, the second one will require some shortening of sentences in the translation file.

Since we have at least 3 ppl able to do it (Cy, coolDisguise and me) it shouldn't be a problem to get it done till the patch.

I'm on it.

As for the Polish issue, well, I've done some editing on the ClientScheme.res, and the plot thickens:
(http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5646/2012080500004.th.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/402/2012080500004.jpg/)

I've located a font that showed correctly the Latin Extended-A accents, and changed it into some other font. Turns out the accents keep the same font, while the rest of the characters (ASCII and Latin-1) have their fonts changed.

See the difference between the normal characters (In this example, Times New Roman) and the accented chars (They keep being Tahoma whatsoever).

I wonder if something similar happens on Source Engine games when the game's in Russian or Japanese. Just to get to the point of the issue.

Anyway, back to the fonts, here's version 2.1 of the custom Euro fonts:

I've played a bit more v4.2, and I've fixed some strings on the Spanish translation, plus there's some stuff I'd like to point out that should be corrected:

(http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/5566/2012080700010.th.jpg) (http://img716.imageshack.us/i/2012080700010.jpg/)
Again this screen, I know, but this time, we forgot to translate "Server value" and "Value".

(http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/9775/2012080700009.th.jpg) (http://img38.imageshack.us/i/2012080700009.jpg/)
I've commented out the chance to translate the "Location" string, but that's secondary compared to the fact that the Loading window blocks part of the help text. Possible solution: move it to the top right corner of the screen.

(http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3517/2012080700007.th.jpg) (http://img27.imageshack.us/i/2012080700007.jpg/)
Double comment in here:
 - The OHMSS: AFTER ACTION REPORT text can be placed out of the graphic and into a text string?
 - Most of the comments in the lower part (And the ones at the middle left part ingame) are untranslated, like "got X points..." and such. I don't know if this is because it's a custom server or if this is GE:S official text.

One more thing i ran into today when checking the translation ingame:

The achivement descriptions intersect with the progress bar if the description is on two lines.
Should be more or less an issue in all languages unless you use much less words to describe it in your language.

Not ecaktly a big issue but it would be good if users could actually read the whole text on how to get the achivement.

Also added a minor update for the german translation, too.

Well, in my defense, I have to say that 4.1 had the Achivement description texts smaller, more like the official window in Valve's games, but this version enlarged it and it's quite difficult for me to shorten the lines from two to one.

If you could restore the old font on that window, you'll made my job easier.

What's the lenght issues? Sometimes, we translators have no choice than shorten the lines. The only exception would be the Achievement descriptions, as the size is wrong.

The problem is that Italian is not synthetic as English and sometimes is very difficult to shorten the lines.

Is possible to programm the game to reduce the font dimension if the line isn't displayed correctly?

Anyway I've started shortening lines... but I have a request: Is there a way to test my translation in game?

I can say the same in Spanish, we have to do some tricks to avoid the genre and number mismatch (Check the Spanish version and you should see some colons around).

Is possible to programm the game to reduce the font dimension if the line isn't displayed correctly?
I think the team has answered those questions a few posts above.

Anyway I've started shortening lines... but I have a request: Is there a way to test my translation in game?

You can test the changes by copypasting the gesource_italian contents (Minus the
Code: [Select]
[[Category:Translations]]
<!-- This file is parsed via a script to make sure it is included in each release. Please dont change the format of this page and dont add quotes in comments. Lodle -->

and
Code: [Select]

I just came from the Black Mesa: Source forums, where they found a possible temporary fix for the Polish characters not showing properly: http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?p=497364
Quote
Open file \steamapps\sourcemods\BMS\resource\ClientScheme.res
Find section "CenterPrintText" (subsection of Fonts). Then working in this section only.
There are several options, the most appropriate -
delete the line
"custom" "1"

(there are other ways to do the same, for example delete the line "antialias" "1", but this look worse because antialiasing off)

Hereupon the Russian characters will render by some system Unicode font, it's probably Tahoma, while the English characters remain the way they were.
So if you need a combination of Russian and English characters in same font - have to sacrifice even English font and replace "DIN 1451 Mittelschrift" to "Tahoma".

Viva Tahoma...

P.S. Thanks to IlDucci for hint.

Yes, the new create server menu asks for round count now, instead of round time. This makes sure when you play localhost servers you get the number of rounds you want without thinking too hard. It also takes into account the round delay so you get full timed rounds.

You can still use the ge_roundtime variable if you set the round count variable to -1.

But it the round count variable is > -1, it will automatically divide the rounds based on your desired count (0 and 1 are equivalent to each other, ie no rounds).
