Title: GE_SnowBlind
Post by: terps4life90 on January 17, 2012, 03:58:16 am
I have decided to do another map instead of complex. This map is from Nightfire 007.  There will be weekly updates/screenshoots, so be on the look out. This map was Kraid's unfinished version of Snowblind. This was one of my favorite maps of Nightfire, I will do my best to make it perfect.

Here are a few screen shots to wet your appetite :D . These screenshots are Work in Progress.

A more complex Complex?

Make sure that it doesn't get to confusing and visually borring.
Rather think about how complex could look with a different enviroment theme (e.g. the PDS version is a good example).

But honestly, there are allready a lot of versions of this particular map, i don't think we need another one.
Why not create a map which hasn't been made dozends of times before?

I still have a rough version of snowblind (Nightfire) lying arround, in case you're interrested.

kraid is right, complex is just an old hat + sterile design + endless texture repetition.

how about a brand new map? look at the bond movies, so many fabulous places to see and also potential maps:

1.the golden gate bridge from "A View to a Kill" (already designed in goldeneye: rogue agent)

2.train, train, we need train

3. Kananga's Base from "Live and let die"

4. Willard Whytes House, "Diamonds are forever"

5. Blofeld's clinical research institute, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"

6. Fort Knox, "Goldfinger"

7. Sanchez's villa, "Licence to Kill"

A version similar to PDS complex would be cool, but then again... there's pretty awesome and hard to beat.

Golden Gate Bridge (AVTAK)
Fort Knox (GF)
Zykosky's Cavier Factory (TWINE)
Underwater Pyramid (NSNA)
Sanchez Aztec Drug Lab (LTK)
Construction Site (CR)
or Blood Gulch from Halo but in Goldeneye Style

No Halo maps deserve to be in GE:S.

how about:

MI6 Building (TWINE)

Sam Colt already released that one. I think remaking NightFire maps is a great idea, Since many of them we're great IMO.

I had briefly considered giving Blood Glutch a go. Awesome map.

In my opinion, Its too large and open for GE:S.
You can take example on Runway, Its large and open, But there are hangars. Buildings and all, Whilst Blood Gulch, As far as I remember, Is just a huge open field with two small bunkers.

Yea, it's not very practical. A scaled down version might work, but it has little place in GES. Either way, I have more TWINE maps on my plate so there's no use making Blood Gulch :D

Good to see some progress on this map.

You should add displacement snow to other areas like the helipad too, otherwise it'll look to flat.
I still don't like the wall textures, it needs more variation for sure and also should be darker.
I'm thinking of old natural stone.

Maybe you can find some good ones here: http://www.cgtextures.com/textures.php?t=browse&q=2 (http://www.cgtextures.com/textures.php?t=browse&q=2)

Also the outer wall and the base of the walls should have much bigger stones then the rest.
The higher you get with the walls, the smaller the stone size can be.

Thank you kraid for some closure ;). I will make you happy. I was going to add displacements to the roofs and the helipad, and add some sexy shadow, still a lot of work to do.

This is one of my favorite maps from NightFire. And while my memory is a little foggy about all the little details because I can't remember the last time I played NF, it looks great so far.

Keep it up.

It also depends on the plattform you played the game on.
The console version is quite different from the PC version.

Just yesterday i spoke to someone who's porting the NF maps to GES, so soon you might find out how different they are.

Someone porting NF maps to GE:S? Fuck... I'm working on Power right now, Guess I should stop.
I think the PC version of NF kicked ass, But the console version was also great.

Looks fucking good man! But it looks like the helipad area is mirrored. Anyway, it's looking great.

I tell you a secret, the whole map is mirrored. My fault.
I don't know what exactly went wrong, but hey it can always be flipped inside of hammer.
