Title: Notice the Envmapping on this PP7, and the Phong adds a festive touch.

I'm actually working on PROPERLY phong mapping the rest of the guns, but the "special" stuff got the "vaseline" treatment. Manily because I think it looks good on gold/silver as opposed to blue/black gun metal.

It has received a Phong map pass, though not the uber reflectiveness of the special PP7s.

It's still being tweaked.

awesome. but the reason the black is the best is because it has teh most apparent detail. with the little red safety indicator and the ribs on the slide dont look mangled from all the shiny

It won't be that overpowering, just enough to help accentuate the model and the textures. It allows the map's lighing to better conform to the model.

cool. the only thing i can think of doing to the black is maybe dulling the finish some

That might happen. I of course only want to modify the base texture as a last resort if I can't do it with numbers in the .vmt or Alpha channel hackery in the Normal Map I made.

Here's the Silenced PP7 with Phong Map/No Envmap. As you can see, it adds a smidge of detail to the lighting without making it look shiny.

I'm having some trouble with the Phantom and it's various "groups" not illuminating properly. Think you could take a whack at it?

Everything except mines are done. Will have them ALL done in an hour or so.

The weapons look great. They shine under the lights yet they are dark as hell when there is no light. Nice video. When do you plan on releasing this?

Ooh, pretty lighting AND classic sounds! Where'd you find those?
Title: Re: Notice the Envmapping on this PP7, and the Phong adds a festive touch.
Post by: engineer on February 15, 2009, 04:48:21 pm
I actually procured a ROM (which for me is not a huge deal- I own the cart.) and ripped the sounds from it.

I'd like to release it, if it is okay.
Title: Re: Notice the Envmapping on this PP7, and the Phong adds a festive touch.
Post by: PPK on February 15, 2009, 05:02:32 pm
I guess you can release the work you did with the weapons; one of the devs already said you could and they even suggested you got a trial going giving that you did a good work. As for the sounds, since they are from the original game, you better keep them to yourself because of copyright infringement.

They're canned/generic sounds. I recognise most of them outside of GE.

Ok then. Just release the envmappings for the weapons you have been making. We can't stand the wait. By the way, will there be a noticeable performance decrease?

I haven't noticed one.

Thanks for the info. Normally when you increase or modify things related to shading and stuff (I'm a complete noob at this btw), you get some performance decrease, but I guess that with what you changed (they seem to be minor things), it won't happen at all.

I lost MABYE a whopping 2-3 frames, and that's a guesstimate. I don't notice any loss in performance.

2~3 frames? That ain't shit. I'll get it when you make it available. Thanks for this man. ;)

well I supose its all relative.  A pc that only gets max 33FPS may suffer a higher drop.

I thought DX 7 was removed form the OB engine, looks like it wasnt.
DX7 you can see things better, certain effects do not work, laser trip mines in HL2 can be seen much easier when planted in water than DX8 or 9
Some go as far as calling it unfair and is banned from some leagues but policing it is hard.

i use dx 7.. it helps.. a-LOT... and i agree... if im not using it... my 8fps will force me to do unspeakable things... like the Q word..

Sp1nn3y, what's your graphics card? because I got much more than 8 FPS on my old Radeon 9550.

I should have underlined old, or probably I didn't explain myself correctly (most likely the latter). I had a Radeon 9550, now I have a Radeon X1600 Pro (old too, but way better than the previous one). I'm gathering money to buy a rig that will blow my power supply. I'm talking about a GeForce 295 and stuff like that, but guess that when I have the dough needed for it, it will be outdated... hehe

MY computer with radeon 9600(old but it was BOSS when i got it, 2 gig ram, msi mobo, etc) is sitting in pieces due to an i HOPE blown gfx card.. so i'm using this :-P i really wish i knew what the problem is on my computer..

Scouser is somone from Liverpool England, the reason I asked was beause they use the word Boss alot to describe some thing good.
You cannot get Vac banned for scripts.

/overhead - Would "coded" haxx0rz work? I've always called it scripting because it's REAL simple stuff.. i call "coding" stuff i cant do, the hard stuff.. like actually.. coding... as is say editing/adding a vec in a hack is a few simple lines.. idk i've always called it scripting.. i could see where others would get confused... but w/e i'm over it, haven't done that in atleast 4+ years (i quit for a while, came back and it was like haxxor rehab)

Lol yeah.. my word for something "good" is pretty random i'll use from Boss to whatever else there is :-p. I had to go dictionary scouder xD.

then the better question is when will we see them.

3.1? 4.0?

being a pretty small change i will be disappointed if its not in 3.1 :P
