What are the general System Requirements for Goldeneye source?
My system
Win7HomePremium 64-Bit
Memory 4GbDDR3 800MHz
250GB Hard Drive 7,200 RPM
Overclockable Intel® Core™2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache)
1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M
Will half-life 2 run on this system too? is HL-2 steam better?
Thank you.

A glance at your specs tells me you should be able to run the mod with no problems. It's a laptop right? Well, you seem to have better than average specs.
The system requirements are about the same as HL2:Episode 2
Minimum: 1.7 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX® 8.1 level Graphics Card (Requires support for SSE), Windows® 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
Recommended: Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card, Windows® 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
If you can run this mod you can run HL2 with no problems. HL2 on Steam is an upgraded version of HL2 on a newer engine with better graphical effects such as HDR.

Yes it is a laptop. Ah ok I thought you need to run Half life 2, I did not know you just need Episode 2 only to run the mod.
Thank you for your reply.
So I just need the Episode 2 HL Steam version correct?
Sorry for the newbie questions, I'm new to pc gaming. Always used just a console.

You dont need a specific HL2 game to run a HL2 mod. You need SDK Base (2007 i think for GES) Any of the products on the following list will give you access to it (except free portal)

Youll find the SDK bases under the tools tab in steam when/if you have access to them. Hope that helps.

Don't expect to run super smooth with that processor. I have a 2.0 Core 2 Duo and I run fairly decent frames, but not at optimal res or anything. Yours will be CPU caped for sure as it is a pretty big difference of 1.3 to 2.0. Hopefully, your graphics card will make up for some of that, but don't hold your breath since source is highly processor based (less graphics card like other games)

I have same laptop pretty much, but only a 210m GPU, and I run on High about perfectly. You should be gold.
Your CPU will OC to 1.7ghz, correct? if so, then should be High, if not highest.
My laptop, for comparison:
Intel ULV 1.3GHZ C2D (1.7ghz for gaming)
4gb DDR3 1066
Nvidia G210m /Intel965 int. gfx (I think...)
128GB SSD, but games load off USB 500GB drive.
Pretty much all High settings in GE:S.

Thanks for the replies. Looking foward to playing Goldeneye Source for the first time!

That craps all over my specs mate, and I run it on full settings (Although a little stuttery with AA).
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
2GB DDR Ram (Yes, I know... Im not even on DDR2 yet)
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT 512MB Graphics Card
Sound card not really worth mentioning, crappy C-Media £12.99 jobby.
I run at a resolution of 1440x900.

my system is even shittier
amd quad core phenom x4 2.3GHZ
4GB ram
Windows xp x64
9800gt 1GB
Your laptop will run fine.
-
lol, wow...I need to get a better system. You guys are all saying your computer is shitty and mine isn't anywhere close to yours. haha
Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHZ
4GB ram
ATI radeon 3650 256mb dedicated
yeah, gpu is my cap for sure. :P
-
Just change the processor. Your graphic card can handle Source Engine just fine.
-
Wish I could, but it is a laptop. Not the easiest and most worthwhile thing to do. :) Plus, it is a 5 year old computer. Might as well buy a new one :P
-
Yeah, That'll be a good idea.
You don't need an extraordinary budget to buy a decent PC, You can get one that suits your needs perfectly for as low as 500$.
I built my cousin one two weeks ago for as low as 350$CAN and it can run any game just fine, Not max details, But you know... Although running GE:S at max detail (Minus AAx8) shouldn't be a problem. I can send you the name of the parts if you want them.
-
yeah, sure why not. Might as well get an idea of a config. :) Thanks

here are my specs, would these work?
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 220 Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 1GB memory

It will work yeah. Wont be the prettiest, but should play ok.
