IMO all these things point to a crappy game in the works. What I love GES that no official "modern" remake would do is that we left the gameplay essentially untouched, leaving all the original nostalgia and awesome intact while adding new features that only improved the experience in an online environment on a modern engine. It's kind of like what Kraid said, I expect this to be an overhyped game like CoD, with none of the players even being old enough to know and appreciate what the original game was (it's on the Wii after all) and eat it all up assuming they're getting a great title because someone in marketing told them they were since it was based off a legendary game, and if that game was good, this one must be too!

So you get to start with dual AR33s and mission objectives are to lose at texas poker, jump off of cranes without any Q junk like a watch-mounted grappling hook or parachute cufflinks to KEEP YOU FROM TURNING INTO A SPLATTY SPLATTER when you land, and the big finish is a quick-time event where you have to press A to taunt the fallen enemy with a can of oil?
Should i retire from GES when this comes out?
We all will probably be forcibly retired from GES a few months before launch. <sarcasm>cough cough</sarcasm>

I dont care if its Rare, or Activision making the game. There arent any good shooter games for the wii and this is where Goldeneye will fill the gap. I want to play with someone online and snipe there head off.
Like rodney said its better than nothing to be honest. Cant wait for it.

There are good shooter games on Wii.
The Conduit wasn't bad, there's a port of CoD:MW1, one of the Medal of Honor games was good i heared and there are some other games too like Red Steel 1&2 (i somehow liked the first one) and Quantum of Solace.
Also some ppl call Metroid Prime 1-3 shooter, too.
BTW: there are many good Rail Shooters.

damn that just shit. you can give it a change, but look at the level. there arent never close to a remake of the original ( man just look at the cradle i can vomit my eat when i see that. MAn i will walk into the secret silo vent and hide, or bettter behind the secret door in train. man that sucks i am interesting hoe the levels will be at least, on for it the other charakters, and the story. and i hope they have missions like bunker and silo. missions, who arent in the movie

I don't see how this game will do anything but backfire.
The only way its making money is in the sense that newbie kids might go "oh my brother used to play this when i was 5 and he said it was the best game ever, i want to see how they updated it!"
There is no way hardcore fans of the original will flock to the remake. Just look at how little of the hardcore fanbase of goldeneye has come to GE:S. Really its only about 5% of people I talk to who used to play the orginal fanatically, that have heard about GE:S let alone play it and its been the most exposed Goldeneye mod making it onto PC gamer and stuff.
My point is, we recreate things VERY much canon as we can possibly do, whereas activision have really not even attempted to give it a goldeneye feel. There is no way oldschool fans regard their remake as anything. I wonder if boycotting has already started among non GE:S goldeneye aficionado's

I've got to disagree - it has a low polygon count and low resolution textures and the shader model 1.0 (pixel and vertex shaders) interface for PC exists since DirectX 8, which was in 2000 (GoldenEye being released 1997), so you really can't compare that in terms of graphics with the graphics of Crysis or even the Half Life 2 series.
Even custom texture packs don't improve it that much.
Yet it is because of the gameplay that it will always remain a classic.
Nonetheless I've got to agree with KM about the Wii version being disappointing in terms of graphics, although they seem to have more lighting and models with a slightly higher poly count.

If you turn up antialiasing, and anostropic however you spell that, it looks really good. 50 times better than n64.

To me this looks like a cheap copy of Far Cry, so they`ve copied Far Cry so bad, they needed a story, that`s why they said: Oh hey lets make it a bond game, the filmmakers are broken anyway so we might even get a special offer with the rights... which was the most beloved Bond game ? Goldeneye, ok lets mess that up real good...
Plus what made GoldenEye so fucking great ? ERIC SERRA DID, that`s not even a point to argue, his soundtrack might have been a bit dark and slow for some guys but that frenchie understood the film and its philosophy and gave the right touch too it and I bet in this game you`ll have some mediocre bond-bullshit remix right out of the conserve...

I didn't laugh. I almost choked on my tongue. That trailer was clearly made for hyper active 10 year olds who have no "roots" because seriously I almost seized watching it! Its flashing all over, showing 1-2 microsecond clips of gameplay, shitty graphics, and not to mention the 8 playable characters ZOMG!

I laughed so hard when i watched the gameplay video; the briefing, the intro text, the cooperative stealth missions with NPCs (even the "you take the one on the left, I got the one on the right), random music cues, iron sights, guards with flashlights, regenerating health, hell even the bullet impact sounds and oh yeah the fact that it's 90% scripted sequences... I was literally laughing my ass off at how it's just CoD with James Bond skins. Every part of it.
It's worse than when we were fully beholden to HL2 animations.

Wtf? Since when is Bond taking some (obviously) gay russian along on his missions? Who does this guy think he is? Giving orders to Bond? Wasn't Bond supposed to infiltrate the facility WITHOUT anyone knowing? So why is he shooting trucks causing them to explode? (I still wonder HOW exactly he's doing that, also breaking the truck's security glass - it's a military truck after all - with a kick is a little strange).
And there's this unlimited ammunition and no health bars - so it's autorecovery, right? Just sit in one spot until you're full again and go ahead - but where's the challenge? And there's checkpoints everywhere...
The only thing that 'might' be good are the briefings.

GE:S got two distinct shout outs in the comments. Thats pretty good consider 99% of those comments were positive towards the game saying it was the next best thing!
One person even went so far to comment that he is "excited of all the many possibilities in this game" which makes me sit and wonder... how are there possibilities in a game when the FIRST mission is 90% scripted and you have absolutely no control over the direction of the game? If I wanted to watch a movie I'd go to the theater, not play a video game...

wtf, first, who is that bloke..is that meant to be Trevelyan? Second, infinite ammo, wut. Third, I don't get wtf is going on for most of that mission, it's certainly not GE007 - lots of random exploding trucks, and then going down a lift shaft =/

Yeah, this game is nothing like the original. I agree with the earlier comments that this is more of a Goldeneye themed Call of Duty expansion. :P
And those people look nothing like Ourumov and Trevelyan!
Though I'm sure it'll be a generally enjoyable shooter in the end, sorta like Agent Under Fire and Rouge Agent. Not really expecting too much.

Meh, I'll probably still purchase the game and enjoy it. It isn't like the original I agree, and there are some sucky things about it. Honestly, I'm not even going to compare it to the original. I will play through it, enjoy it, play multiplayer a few times, and forget about it.
The one thing I do like is the classic characters. Scaramanga, Red, Klebb, and Blofeld (wish he would have looked like Donald Pleasence though).

well the game on it could be sure great, but so many things arent correct : the health status is real like in COD, the names of the weapons are the real names, the skin, face etc. of the charakters ( specially ouromov ) are stupid and dont look like the original. the GE:S charakter loooks more simular to the movie. the levels arent from GE 007 or from the movie i don´t know how can create them and say thats GE 007. and yeah that window in the military truck can be destroyed lol. no it would be sure great, but so many things are to wrong. we should melt GE:S with GE Wii

Because of licensing restrictions or something like that, they weren't allowed to use the likenesses of any of the original GoldenEye characters like Xenia, Alec, etc... so I really highly doubt that Sean Bean's voice will be in the game, though I haven't checked.
Bond's voice is Daniel Craig though. And I'm pretty sure M's voice (Judy Dench) is in it too but this could also be a false assumption.

I don't think we can even call this a "James Bond" game.
The slow-mo breaching rambo scene just made me think of how much CoD6 sucked.
They completely ruined a classic. When I first heard of it, I would had thought it would just be better graphics and physics, With the same (Or similar) gameplay, Identical maps But instead, We got this.
And where's the slappers? Our only choice of melee is AK bashing now?
Activision should be ashamed.

Great they're trying the same shit as with HD games now on Wii.
Exclusive pre-order bonus stuff, next will be download content like 3 multiplayer maps for $15 or new skins for w/e it'll cost.
I hope at least this is meant to be a Single Player cheat only, not a multiplayer perk or something.

I love this thread. People who've spend a good sized chunk of their lives making goldeneye getting angry about activision doing it. It would be refreshing for one of the developers to come in here and say something good about this game.

To be fair, what they're trying to do is modernize the classic with current-day styles, but not overdo it too much. He even said there's a delicate balance.

I mean come on, they've gotten rid of weapon sets, the invulnerability period, and put in a ton of random modifiers that no-one will ever care to use. If i were to look at gameplay footage of this production without being told what it is beforehand, Goldeneye wouldn't even come to mind.

The game isn't meant for us or fans of the original, as much as Activision is touting to be. It's Goldeneye for someone whose first shooter was Halo or CoD4 and isn't old enough to have seen the film during its initial run or own an N64 during it's respective time in the sun.

My approach to this is the cliched 'old man yelling at the kids to get off his lawn'. I don't want it and will tell anyone within earshot as much. Daniel Craig was enough to turn me away. He's a good Bond, but Goldeneye is not his Bond. After they swapped, it became just another game with the Goldeneye moniker, to me. Having survived 'Rogue Agent', I'll survive this.

And that's the problem.
Most of us here are gamers that do not appreciate the "Current-day style". (Correct me if I am wrong, But I'd rather play DOOM and Goldeneye 64 than Call of Duty 6 right now. I still do.)
As a remake, I didn't want this to be modern-styled engine. I just wanted the old game with better graphics, Pierce Brosnan, Same or almost untouched gameplay, Same missions with added objectives/endings similar to the movie, Etc...
"But not overdo it too much." Slow-motion breach, "Tactical" kills from behind, Scripted actions and cinematics etc, Is already too much to me.

I'm sure the game is "good" in its own merit... its merit being that it's CoD reskinned with "GoldenEye".
I think the one thing that stands out the most as being "flawed" is that the levels aren't even remotely "similiar" besides plants being in the Jungle, snow in Siberia, and pipes in the Facility. (As pointed out, I'm sure it has to do with Rare owning the original layout, etc.)
The characters missing their actor's resemblance sucks, too.
I'm kinda glad I retired consoles back in 2004. I occasionally hook up with my cousin to play a WWE game every now and then but the whole "buy this! buy that! this is epic. t3h ub3rrr" mentality of video game indurstry turns me off. On top of that, the games tend to fail to deliver and/or just mimic the best selling game at the moment.
The last game that I bought and thoroughly enjoyed was L4D2.

I'm going to rent it and I'll play it on my friend's Wii. Just to say "I've played it" so if anyone asks me "What do you think of the new Goldeneye Wii?" And I answer "Its horrible." if he asks me "Did you play it?" I will be able to answer "Yes".
Honestly I don't even want to play this, But I'm going to check out the rest of the single-player, I'll just stop playing if its too unplayable. I'm not going to check the multiplayer, Not even worth it.
The last game that I bought and thoroughly enjoyed was L4D2.
Sure that game was enjoyable in the beginning, But for me, I just got tired 2 weeks after buying it. I feel I've been ripped off 70$.

Personally, I don't get how some people DON'T like versus at all. There are a number of people that just hate it and would rather play campaign. AI is boring IMO. I have been play l4d1 and 2 for 2 years straight now, still not sick of it. There is just some satisfaction of raping the other team that never gets old. The fact that valve has continually added new maps for it now keeps it fairly fresh, but yeah, L4D isn't for everyone. :)

Oh no I never said I didn't like versus at all, I like versus, Its pretty entertaining, But I had the XBox 360 version, So no custom content. That's why it got boring real quick to me.
EDIT : If I had the PC version right now, And a couple of buddies that has it, I'm sure that I'd play versus regularly.

There's little innovation or ground-breakage. (Like when GE007 hit the scene.)
I'll give it a rent. If it's okay in and of itself when not being contrasted to GE007 or GE:S in terms of loyalty to source material, I'll be 50% satisfied.

I was able to play this new "Goldeneye 007" title on the Wii not so far ago. It looks like a new Goldeneye and it plays like Call of Duty but it is fun. Since i don't own a Wii i wont be able to play it at home. It is a fun title for the Wii but it will be only released on Wii and DS, no real option for a PC gamer.

More importantly this has come out today:

Although it's 3rd person, it isn't looking that bad and if I'm not mistaken they even changed Craig's hair color (or used another optional Bond although it's stating that this should be Craig).

Looks decent.. also the music is stolen from the Wii's goldeneye game.
Nothing beats Goldeneye 007 for N64 and Goldeneye Source!!!!!
