A rail!? Now I can attach a sniper scope and boom headshot from miles away. :D
-
Yay! :D
-
It looks a little bit more like the magnum from PD, which, don't get me wrong, I really, really like.
-
I think it looks great. I like it better than the hl2 magnum too.

That's an iron sight rail, not a Picatinny rail. Anyway, I've never heard of a magnum having a Picatinny rail, usually for scope mounting they are drilled and tapped (like you know what that means)
Still, it's a beautiful render!
-
who doesn't know what tapped metal is? lol
-
I've seen mags with scopes on them. Scopes as big as the pistol. I recall seeing a bunch in a recent article in a random gun magazine about chasing bears with .445 Mags.
-
You didn't understand my comment, I see. Alright, let's go through this.
The rail on that pistol is NOT a scope mount. It's not a mount, period. It's there to aid in using the iron sight. Sort of like the rail on many shotguns, such as the Remington 870 Wingmaster.
Pistols are mounted with scopes. I would know this, I write for a gun website. For example, the Oregon optics company Leupold and Stevens makes the FX-II 2x20mm Handgun scope. However, the mounts are NOT on rails. They are usually drilled and tapped, which refers to how the scope mount is physically attached to the barrel. I think there may be some tip-off scopes, but generally they are normal type rings. I see no evidence, however, that that pistol is drilled and tapped. Therefore, you'd need to take it to a gun store (if it existed in real life) and have it drilled and tapped.

I don't mean to step on any toes, but shut the hell up.

Wow, nice work nudnick ;) That's a lot of detail in a source model.
-
turbo long time no see :D
-
Hehehe, yeah, it's been a long while. I'm going to be around for the release!
-
Nudnick isnt around anymore, he dropped off the team somewhere before march apparently. But im sure he got your praise in spirit =D
-
Yeah, hes currently working on the RnL mod now.

Yeah, hes currently working on the RnL mod now.
Now I'm confused... is he on or not? ??? He has some really nice work though :)
-
He's not on the team anymore, but he asked us to continue using his models. So we are. He's working on the RnL mod now.
-
Updated, now includes skinned Cougar Magnum. Enjoy! :)
-
Yummy natural wood finish on the handle ;)
-
ooh, skinned version looks class.
-
ty, just a reminder that this is the color map only. the in game version will be reflective and sexier.
-
Very very nice. I must say, though, I wouldn't mind seeing just a little more shading on the handle to give some definition to it. I mean, it looks alright, but it just looks like a cg texture and could be more realistic.
-
It will all be fixed with the spec and reflection maps. The gun should almost look like the same texture as your avatar then.
-
Ooh the textures make it look alot nicer.

Sweeeeet. Will it be deagle shaped too?
-
Dont forgot the deagle sound!
-
Having just gone through all the gun scripts recently, I can state we're really in a hole about sound effects. If anyone out there can make good sound effects (we need legal, unencumbered sounds; no ripping or re-recordings) they might throw some stuff together. Dev lost its sound guy a while back, apparently.
-
that textured beast is a true thing of beauty
-
I really like it ;D
-
Erm, its a lovely model... but thats the wrong gun :-\ i cant help noticing this, as the magnum was probably my favourite gun in the game...
The Cougar magnum is, in real life, a Ruger magnum. The Ruger Super Blackhawk .44/454 magnum, to be precise, with a 7.5" barrel and stainless finish- one of the worlds most powerful handguns, second only to the S&W M500.
This normally wouldnt be too much of an issue, as a revolver is a revolver is a revolver, but in this case there is practically no similarity whatsoever between the two guns. The model you've drawn up is the old Colt Python ultimate, a comparitively measley .357 magnum designed for shooting tagets very, very neatly. The Ruger is a WAY bigger ol' magnum based on the old western style revolver, with no swing out cylinder and an unmistakeable ejector rod (which can be seen on goldeneye is you aim far right with the gun). It is essentially a much larger, newer and more powerful version of the gun revolver ocelot uses in MGS, the Colt Single Action Army.
Python-
(http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/a/a4/Colt_Python_-_PE.jpg)
Cal- .357 mag
barrel - 6" in that model
Designed for- targets
Double action
has appeared in countless videogames!
Blackhawk-
(http://world.guns.ru/handguns/ruger_superblackhawk.jpg)
Cal- we'll say the goldeneye one is 44 mag (a LOT more powerful as 357)
barrel- 7.5" in goldeneye, overall gun is 1.5 times size of the python
Designed for- big game and people who like insanely large guns
Single action only (must thumb the hammer back between shots, though it seems to be double action in goldeneye for convenience)
Has only been in one game, goldeneye! (id been looking forward to it being redone!) if you aim to the right with the gun you can see the ejector rod)
(BTW, the reason why the gun in the model looks like the one from Half Life is because the magunm in half life is a python! gees, those things get into all kinds of games... which is weird, because they really aren't combat revolvers. Mind you, the blackhawk would be even worse in a combat situation...

looks like my image stealing didnt work, so here it is hosted by myself- compare this gun with the GE cougar, they are the same (wrong colour, mind...)

How many times do I have to beat it into people's heads that the GE guns ARE NOT REAL WEAPONS. They might've been based on real weapons but you can't look at one and say "That's the wrong gun." by comparing it to a picture of a real gun. If you want to say it's the wrong gun then actually compare it to the damn GE gun.

Ah, never mind... I see now you're saying that's what the gun should have been modeled off of. I don't think it's anything more than a nitpicky issue at this point about the length of the barrel, really.
I do disagree with nowhere and think the guns' looks ought to be modeled off the real weapons when possible, but when a model is already done and looking as good as the one at the beginning of this thread, there's no point in changing it.
Looks like an old render was using the right model gun before, but I guess that's what happens when you have so much turnover.

i disagree i think the model we chose looks much closer to the gun used in GE64
i always felt more like dirty hairy running around with that hand cannon, rather than a cowboy.

I win.

The guns created by the GE:S team are far superior to normal weapons, as will soon be demonstrated by the beta. These guns are smarter, faster, shinier and louder than any gun you've ever handled. Plus, I'm 90% certain there will be lazer sights, heat-guided missiles as secondary fire, and the AR-33 will be able to transform into a giant robot. Merry Christmas.

You're 100% right...

The model rendered actually seems to be a Smith and Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum, which IS Dirty Harry's gun. More importantly, it was used by Roger Moore in "Live and Let Die", and I believe that's even used in the scene when he fights Baron Samedi.
And while the gun in the Goldeneye 007 Beta was clearly a Ruger, the final game in the game is radically changed from that.
So I have now have zero problems with this render.

Well then i have to say the gun modeled here just doesnt look like the one in the game to me.

Fixed
I know nothing about modelling but I think it needs to be more geometrically square.
Okay thanks for reading this
