Title: blog 13/06/08 Ges 1.1i
Post by: Mark [lodle] on June 13, 2008, 12:47:52 pm
Im midway through my exams (dont have one till end of next week) and also quit my job so i have a bit of free time to work on ges.

Well ges 1.1i is being tested as well speak and should be ready some time next week. It is backward compatible (so far) with version h (h clients can play on g servers and g clients can play on h servers) and includes various bug fixes plus community maps.

During my time on the ges team i implemented the death animation. The animation i had at the time was just a rough test one and it didnt look nice at all. What i was thinking if some one from the community wants to make one ill gladly include it into the next patch.

Requirements:
*upto 50 frames
*size has to be under 5mgs total (images only)
*640x480 is preferred size (will auto scale)
*tga preferred format

Oh laggy and educator please contact me about testing this patch!

Sorry to hear you had to quit your job. Hopefully it was for the better.

And if you need another tester, I'll gladly help.

Llodle, why you making a 1.1g if we already have a 1.1h. shouldn't it be 1.1i so people don't get lost?

Yeah sorry been swamped with other things.

Do have a finished patch but due to the severity of the bugs it isint backwards compatible and wont ever be. Trying to add as much bang for buck in to make it a worth while upgrade. Should be done by week end hopefully.
Title: Re: blog 13/06/08 Ges 1.1i
Post by: Doc.NO on June 25, 2008, 09:42:59 pm
Yeah sorry
Don't. There are countless of other things much more important than ges.

it isint backwards compatible and wont ever be.
:( :( :( My main concern would be how many player with 1.1h will update their game to 1.1i??? Not much. There are still some players on beta 1.0, some players with a previous version (1.1f, 1.1g). With a new version, the game will be even more clutered. With the actual very very low player base GES has, its not a good thing.
Go fot a 1.1i, but if you're planning a 1.1j or k or z that isn't backwards compatible, forget it and take time to polish this new version.
Like Wake says, your patch has gone as far as it needs: fix the reluctants bugs of the beta 1.0.

On the other side, 3 other requests for this 1.1i:
1/say and say_team are displayed the same way in the in-game chat.
Quote
playername: message
Since teamplay really take off in ges thanks to beta 1.1, I would suggest to made say_team different, like in the beta 1.0:
Quote
{to: team} playername: message

2/
Quote
weapon load outs im not touching as then ill have to recompile each map
I do understand your point. There's only two or three maps that include the item/team spawn point entities. What about weapon loadouts? Its up on all the maps (so no need of a recompile), and changing the weapon set with a CVAR would be useful. With the rather unbalanced game we have, a pistol only weapon set in ltk would be much better.

3/I'm trying to set up hlstatsx-like stats( i see countless of addicted players to that in TF2, why not in GES?). Its based on logs file. However,
* weapons arent registered
* teams are registered in deathmatch
At the moment, the logs looks like that:

Quote
L mm/dd/yyyy - hh:mm:ss: "PlayerName<uid><steamid><MI6>" killed "PlayerName2<uid><steamid><MI6>"

whereas, according to the half life log standards (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/HL_Log_Standard), it should be like these:

Quote
L mm/dd/yyyy - hh:mm:ss: "PlayerName<uid><steamid><team>" killed "PlayerName2<uid><steamid><team>" with "ge_weapon"
team being a variable equals to unassigned in deathmatch mode, and either MI6 or Janus in teamdeathmatch mode.

Really, those are 3 personnal requests. Do what you want with them, regarding the amount of work needed to fix them :)
Catch me on steam or PM for a test of the patch if ya want :P

Weapon sets are deeply embedded into the maps and source code and are a pain to change.

Ill look into the team say thingy.

The thing is that death match still makes players join Mi6 or Janus just that it is hidden. This prob be a major pain in the ass to fix.

Do see wtf w/ loadouts. Still nice to have em workin though :).
For the logs, if you can add the weapon part, would be vary cool. Main problem with team is... in DM, hlstatsx record that as friendly fire :/ No clue how the log writing process works, just dont bother w/ teams, and write unasigned in the logs if ge_teamplay = 0
How did yu tweaked YOLT?

I still think something needs to be done about the ModDB Page for GES, it is still showing 1.1f. No 1.1h to be found. Could attract more players.

Haha, yeah the ZMG is incredibly overpowered, and everyone knows it. (3 hit kills + 32 round clip +rapid fire = ownage)

Which is why sprays like this are made:

The thing is i dont have access to ges moddb page (but since i work for moddb now ill see what i can do).

The thing is the autos are overpowered because they can hit people now. :P
Sorry i have been working all week and weekend. Il try and get it done Tuesday and might tweek the guns.

P.S. SSL do you keep trying to add me to steam?

Ah. Makes sense. I still remember people getting insane kills with the ZMG in beta 1 though, with pings <100. The pistols are made simply useless by this, unless your target is using the hunting knife, and standing completely still. (especially with the Cougar Magnum.)

P.S. SSL do you keep trying to add me to steam?

Yes

Yeah, that. LTK is a ZMG fest.

Well, Pistols are for Professionals, except of cougar, this weapon is for insane ppl, but it was kinda useless in the Original game, too.
Especally in LtK i prefer the DD44.

Can I make a request? Could weapon bobbing be Implemented? It contributes to the feel of movement. Feels like crap just sliding around with no other movement, you feel like a Camera on rails with a gun. HL2's Bobbing Style is Fine.

b4 new features, lets fix all the bug.

Another one everyone completely forgot about: Bond's suit. Where are the blue and brown one???
Title: Re: blog 13/06/08 Ges 1.1i

I think they were left out because Bond was the only one with alternate outfits, and it would have been a pain to add an aloternate outfit option in the character select for only one character model, but I think they will make their way back in eventually

I'd have the skin selection as a row of small boxes between the character selection and the render model.  The boxes would be icons of a simple silhouette, similar to the bond/HL2 logo we've used, colored to reflect the skin.  The other characters could easily have distinctive silhouette icons as well, so that should make skin selection easy and intuitive and not chew up a load of GUI space.

Yet another thing (if your enough motivated to get 1.1i out :P):

Only Escape style menus works ATM, AMX style menus does not work in this mod. Would be great if you can get them to work. In scripts/HudLayout.res, just replace this
Code: [Select]
	HudMenu
{
"fieldName" "HudMenu"
"visible" "1"
"enabled" "1"
"wide" "640"
"tall" "480"
}
by that
Code: [Select]
	HudMenu
{
"fieldName" "HudMenu"
"visible" "1"
"enabled" "1"
"wide" "640"
"tall" "480"
"zpos" "1"
"TextFont""Default"
"ItemFont""Default"
"ItemFontPulsing""Default"
}
HudRadio
{
"fieldName""HudRadio"
"TextFont""Default"
"visible""1"
"xpos""10"
"ypos""c"
"wide""Default"
"tall""Default"
"text_ygap""2"
"TextColor""255 255 255 192"
"PaintBackgroundType""0"
}
thx (http://www.steamfriends.com/wiki/Source_Menus)
(http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/47/gecontrolcz0.jpg)

BTW, if the beta 3 could have that changed as well, it would be great (or maybe the OB SDK base comes with a non-bugged HudLayout.res? I'm too lazy to check the gcf).

Yeah im sorry but it doesnt look like im going to get i out before monkey comes close to a heart attack and finishes beta 3.

I have a major project that is ment to be done in 3 months and its sapping all my time. Plus it uses vis 2005 and vis 2003 (what i need for ges) doesnt get on with 2005 well.

Best bet is to start a thread for these things so monkey can make sure they work properly in beta 3.

Maybe this is incorrect, but I'd think you could install a later (1.2) version of Mani's Admin Plugin and call up some votes to see if it works.

Ok so I installed mani, caused a lot of crashes (prolly not installed 100% ok using hL2MP mode) however, I was able to startup the admin VGUI thing and start a vote. I couldn't actually vote from the "say window" because I guess people who rockthevote can't vote... stupid. Whatever I think it works, thats as much effort as i will put into it for now :)

In the server console put 'ma_votequestion x' and it should pop up a menu that says "x; 1: yes; 2: no"

Will any of this deal with the Hit Boxes. Because it takes the fun out of the game when you cant even hit what you aim at. And while a few people have compensated it would seem it leaves them with huge kill counts almost no deaths and everyone yelling hacker lol

yeah, the hit reg is a big concern. I have had more trouble with the hit reg in GES than in any other source Mod or game. HL2DM Works fine, CSS works fine, just don't know exactly what's up.

Doc. No: I consider the lack of weapon bobbing to be a bug. I seriously don't think it would be that hard to get bobbing back in, HL2DM had it, and the code could easily be gathered from there.
