Flip all faces of a map to one side??? Maya/3D MAX
« on: January 02, 2012, 07:11:40 pm »

Guys pls help..

I was making a map, and somehow the polygons got screwed...

some faces are to inside, others to outside...

theres any way I can select everything in Maya/3d max, and just flip everything facing outside???

so the little brushes I have facing inside I can do manually

I mean...the brushes are totally screwed , doing it one by one, manually is not an option!!!

Help plsss

FLIP /UNIFY doesnt help because, when I select the whole world, it will flip some faces to the other side...

manually will takes ages...

I want to flip everything to "outside"

Think about it this way, 3DS max has no idea what you mean by "outside" so I don't think it is possible for you to do it any faster than manual.

You could try selecting multiple faces and doing a mass flip of those bad ones.

If you'd have a simple closed shape e.g. a cube or sphere, it would be easy to determine outside/inside, but in this case i guess your "map" has a lot of 2D geometry.
Still it should be possible to have the face normals of each object facing into the same direction.
(i can do this very easy in my 3D app. so it's possible in max or maya, too)

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do. Could you please provide a screenshot of the map and a description of what you're trying to do.

You should be saving frequently and using appended saves if you're making something that you can't afford to go wrong.
