Title: Caverns Frontzone?
Post by: Rick Astley on November 18, 2011, 12:54:43 am
i was wondering if the front zone area of Caverns will be made?

If the single player is going to be made, then the whole of Caverns will need to be built also.
I'm not sure of having the frontzone as a separate map for multiplayer though. I think it should just be giant Caverns map. Even when I play the map we have now, it feels very small to me, even though it isn't.

There are big changes in-store for 4.2 Caverns. Its a new map by our standards. FZ will be made if we decide to create the single player mode. But for multiplayer, the front zone would be pointless. Its literally a one-line, path. Way too linear for Multiplayer.

I think the frontzone would be perfect, and it needs to be in the game, i really dont think that the map is that linear.

I think you should take another look at the frontzone layout before the only, one lane, huge game play busting, circular walkway that connects the FZ and BZ

Would only make sense to put it in there for SP.

It's to linear and also to small to be a map on it's own.
Adding it to the BZ would be the only option, but for that it would have to be
changed a lot with additional paths and stuff to improve the flow.
But the distance between the FZ and BZ level is to high to even considder this.
(Remember the giant cave with the spiral walkway?)

Look at runway, only one way to go, and its in the game.

Look at runway, only one way to go, and its in the game.

Plus all the other ways to go.
It's also not a single narrow twisty claustrophobic corridor.

Runway is an open area, You can move around everywhere, And there are a few tunnels, Whilst Caverns FZ is just... Two corridors with little to no space.

Every map can be adopted to a MP setting. However, it takes a lot more creative work. Fitting it to the original, while keeping the theme of how this would transfer to a somewhat realistic feel of a similar setting.

Train is..... well a train, but as you can see, there are plenty of ideas for it.

Dam, Frigate, and more are same, but all have a lot of ideas how to make them work.

Caverns_fz could be adopted like the main staircase in Silo. You would get the iconic spiral, while having exits and rooms off of it on different levels. Just one small idea. Its a lot of work, and takes a lot of testing/compiles of hundreds different versions to get a idea fully layed in stone.

Overhaul it like the runway, in the original n64 runway there was no downstairs or hangars you could run into. Add shit to it :D

I guess that could be done with some awesome planning. :)

Yup, I can do it way better

dont mess with perfection..the only thing i would reccomend is to change the end of the runway to a large cliff edge and maybe make the sky a bit darker (like in the film/game) because it just looks really well...undescriable and odd that there isnt a deep chasm

Would like to see the frontzone as well. The spiraling part is easily fixed by just connecting the frontzone and the backzone directly. Or by having a path go directly to both doors, with the spiralling section staying in there for... reasons (like a few weapon/ammo spawns).

While doable; what's the point in FZ MP? I mean there's already the Caves map, so who's going to ever choose FZ?

That hard work could easily be spend on the amazing Frigate map.

Just saying...

It will be created IF we decide on the single player route. I believe we will, but that is not a decision or task, that I can achieve alone.

Exactly. The team have so many other multiplayer maps to do, so I think this frontzone can wait.

Good for the discussion though :)

Say, talking about Frigate: how would Carver's stealth boat from the PSX game Tomorrow Never Dies be?

Realy? That was the one at the end of the game, where you needed to escape with if I remember correctly...

That has nothing to do with GoldenEye... Maybe custom map?

That would be a 3rd party map. But it would be pretty awesome to see here. *HINT HINT* :P

I think statue park would be one of the hardest maps to create. so many new models needed. and in my memories it was way too confusing

It is indeed confusing. I alway thought it wasn't linear, untill I found this layout: http://faqs.neoseeker.com/Games/N64/goldeneye_level_10.gif (http://faqs.neoseeker.com/Games/N64/goldeneye_level_10.gif)

And that would be an insane amount of models, yes :o

Ahw yeah!

You could just connect the whole thing.
