Title: Sprays
Post by: PPK on February 06, 2009, 06:06:42 pm
ITT you post your sprays for GE:S. So go ahead and unleash your Photoshop skills, which can't be worst than mine's, and make a nice spray.
I'll post the (crappy) ones I made so far. Don't be shy! We want to know the artist in you!

In Freeman we trust: found this image on the internets and though about making a spray of of it.

(http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/th_In_Freeman_We_Trust_by_Esch_One_sma.jpg) (http://s634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/?action=view&current=In_Freeman_We_Trust_by_Esch_One_sma.jpg)

Plenty O'Toole: gander at those beautiful... eyes.

(http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/th_plentyotoole_stop_staring.png) (http://s634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/?action=view&current=plentyotoole_stop_staring.png)

Honey Ryder: just look and make sure you don't drool over the keyboard (never mind the misspelling on the file name).

(http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/th_bow_chicka_honey_ryder.jpg) (http://s634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/?action=view&current=bow_chicka_honey_ryder.jpg)

Shithole: make sure you spray this near the bathroom in the Facility.

(http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/th_shithole_PPK.png) (http://s634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/?action=view&current=shithole_PPK.png)

Baron Samedy: (insert pointless description here).

(http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/th_o_rly_PPK.png) (http://s634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/?action=view&current=o_rly_PPK.png)

Klobb: health warnings are never too much (nevermind the error; I already know an R is missing).

(http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/th_klobb_use_risk_PPK.png) (http://s634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/?action=view&current=klobb_use_risk_PPK.png)

ZMG: one for those players we just love to hate.

(http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/th_spam_or_die_PPK.png) (http://s634.photobucket.com/albums/uu65/PPK/?action=view&current=spam_or_die_PPK.png)

If you want the RAR files that include the image file and the VTF's and VMT's, PM me 'cause I can't seem to figure out how to attach those files here (guess it isn't possible at all, but oh well...).

It's a lot easier to just supply the TGA files, since your HL2.exe will load them and create the appropriate VTFs and VMTs.  Or, leave it to the user to convert the PNG to TGA and proceed normally.

Wasn't aware of that. Thanks btw. But this way they already have the right files and there will be no hassle for those who don't know what you said or how to convert files, etc...
Title: Re: Sprays
Post by: VC on February 06, 2009, 06:52:13 pm
I would expect it's easier for a tyro to handle "load this TGA file in the spray options screen" rather than "navigate to the /GUI/logos subdirectory of your steam game's directory and extract these files therein, then proceed to launch the game and confirm the files are installed correctly."
Title: Re: Sprays
Post by: PPK on February 06, 2009, 07:19:45 pm
Perhaps... Either way, I'll provide the TGA's aswell.

Just so everyone can know, Paint.net (The program not the website) can save images as TGA.

So.... what's the supported filename.tga to use this? erm sounds awkward... example: in cs1.6 it needs to be called TEMPDECAL.wad for it to be noticed as a spray... i'm always picky about what my spray is...

and where would i put this <>.tga at?
Title: Re: Sprays
Post by: mbsurfer on February 10, 2009, 03:18:31 am
It can be named anything.  Just go to Options>Multiplayer>Custom Spray, and then browse to the image you want to be your spray. It doesn't even have to be .tga I believe .jpg .bmp and others are also supported.

I found this (http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/1338) useful for creating sprays.

It helped me create this Ourumov one.

not EXACTLY as i was looking for but that tutorial from FPSB helped out :D i'm used to making 1.6 sprays lol... simple .wad convert with 0,0,255 Pure blue would suffice for transparency.. lol thanks for that tutorial though :D

Nice spray. I just make mine's in Photoshop and then convert them to .vtf's and .vmt's using VTFEdit. It is more complicated, apparently, but I've gotten used to it. I'll post more when I do them.
Title: Re: Sprays
Post by: Sp1nn3y on February 10, 2009, 05:31:18 pm
-.- still nothing.... I don't see how this could be this complicated.. I'm using PSPx2 (fully paid for no trial) and i dont have the .tga extension.. AND i'm not looking for transparency.. just... a nice picture... with my name on it.. i wanna do it the harder way because it just looks horrid options>multi player>spray...

:-/ I'm never a noob with these things.. just.. :-/ Those tut's are for Photo Shoppers.. i'm "A Paint Shop Pro-er"..

Then use VTFEdit. It creates .vtf and .vmt files which are used for textures on the Source engine (vtf stands for Valve Texture File and vmt stands for Valve Material File; it's just to explain the extension's name's).

For that you only need to create your spray in the format you like (dunno if VTFEdit supports Paint Shop Pro's file types; to be sure, save it in .jpeg) and then open that image with VTFEdit. After doing that, just save it with the name you want and it will create the appropriate files. To make them work in-game, place the .vtf and the .vmt files in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SouceMods\gessource\materials\VGUI\logos (substitute C for another letter if appropriate). Also, copy your .vmt file into \VGUI\logos\UI.

Get VTFEdit here (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=178#p178).

Hope it helped!

Awesome Thanks... I save and i only get one file  sp1nn3y.vtf..? no .vmt... i DO apologize lol i read it a fair bit of times.. but i'd like to get this right :D
Title: Re: Sprays
Post by: PPK on February 10, 2009, 07:47:55 pm
I completely understand mate, no problem. It should automatically create a vmt file as well. Should go like this:

First of all, translation because my OS is in Portuguese (my language): Guardar = Save, Os Meus Documentos = My Documents, Abrir com... = Open with..., Escolher programa = Choose program

Open the image you want to make a spray of with VTFEdit.

Press Ok.

Go to the File tab and press Save.

Type the name of the file you want where "yournamehere" is. then Press Save and that's it!

The .vtf and .vmt files are surrounded by a black box. It was assembled in MS Paint in a hurry, sorry for that.

If it is not working this way, then unfortunately I don't know what is the matter. You'll have to consult the author's website to figure out a solution. In the meantime, if you need that spray bad, attach the file that I'll convert it and then post back here.

I have that expensive piece of professional software, it's Sp1nn3y that doesn't.

Funny thing, the word you wrote, NAO (as if it was now), translates to Portuguese as not, minus the graphical accent ~ (in Portuguese, not is não).

He doesn't have Paint.Net and I didn't even remember mentioning it. Either way, he already has it done. Now he can download all the image editing programs he want and add VTFEdit to his list of useful programs.

Get the latest version; I think it is CS4. Legally is like 600 or 700$; I'm not up-to-date as for the prices. All I know is it isn't cheap. But one of the other programs suggested in here, the GIMP and Paint.Net are pretty useful.

It's my avatar. His name's Eusébio, the greatest Portuguese football player of all time and one of the world's best too. If you don't know who he is, then you should, so go ahead and educate yourself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eus%C3%A9bio). ;D

Oh.  I was convinced by some guy that this was not illegal because of some of the files being modified and because it didn't launch the same way as regular CS4 Extended.

I don't know much about any copyright laws or w.e, so I believed him.

I was convinced by Mr. Some Guy that selling bootleg copies of Disney's Snow White was not illegal because some of the dwarves' names were dubed over to become sexual euphemism puns and because the title sequence was replaced with an ad for Shamwow.

Now that I think of it... A paint gun in a game would be pretty cool. Teams can make up their own system of tags that they can implement and use for missions and stuff. But this would be more suitable for campaigns instead of arena deathmatch games.

That Gates' one is nice; it illustrates the reality pretty well in fact. But don't say my soccer player is bad 'cause you never saw him play. Because of him, we finished third in the World Cup in 1966. And don't say we don't need him as well. We need him. That's what our national team needed at the moment, a player like that one.
