« on: August 11, 2007, 08:58:30 am »

My city is called Ã…lesund, right outside the Norwegian fjords.

And from the fjords:

I can post more later.

Sorry if this isn't considered a decent topic.

You should, visiting Ã…lesund is a great experience

What's the name of the place you grew up? Looks fantastic there. And SF looks interesting. Certainly much bigger than any Norwegian city (our biggest city is Oslo, 500.000 inhabitants).

You should!

I can't imagine how it must be to live in a big city like Belo Horizonte! Oslo (500.000 inhabitants) is big enough for me! But I've always wanted to go to Brazil some time...

Here are some more pictures from Ã…lesund:

perth CBD

Beach (20 mins from CBD)

pop. 2 million spread over 100kms of coastal plain  -- most isolated capital city in the world (something like 2000kms to nearest capital).

Global warning causing any rising ocean levels wouldnt take long to have me underwater as you can tell its pretty flat coast plain - but we would likely retreat to the scarp for our new beach :)

There are so many gigantic cities out there! Isn't it rather tiring living in a multi-million city?

well, i dunno how it is to live in a small city  ;D
but then i think when you live on a big city you kinda limit yourself to some areas. i can't go to the east or north without getting lost (which equals to 70% of the city). anyways they're pretty much residential areas and my friends live in the south or near downtown. the bad part is that it's nearly impossible to ride a bike anywhere because of the nasty hills and big distances between stuff, so we gotta rely on cars or the bad public transport system. my girlfriend lives in the same neighborhood as me and it's a 20 minute walk to get there.

in cities like mine there isn't much natural beauty to look at, only at the parks

but then we have a interesting mix of architecture styles

sometimes i go to são paulo, biggest city in brazil and like 4th or 5th biggest in the whole world, 20 million people in the metropolitan area. and it's overwhelming and uber fun, there's too much to see there.

Usually most Norwegians won't go to the beach unless it's at least 25 ºC (77 ºF), but some people (including me) can go to the beach even when it's like 10 ºC (50 ºF). And there are some people who go to the beach in winter, when it's below 0ºC (below 32ºF).
