Crash on Startup GE:S 5.0

After a couple re installations of both SDK 2007 and GE:S, the game still refuses to start up.
The game doesn't appear to get past the splash screen. I see a flash of it (the ge:s splash), and then the game crashes to desktop, no errors or anything.
I've tried numerous command line propts from the steam client (dxlevel, novid, resolution, windowed), several re installs, but have gotten nowhere.

I run a windows 10 rig, if that's a problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It could be that you two are missing the 32 bit 2012 Visual C++ Redistributable Package.
