CPU Inquiries
« on: November 12, 2014, 08:07:18 pm »

So, I feel that if I have this in my collection of posters, then I should actually do so. Procrastination ends.

I can't seem to get a solid answer on which has moar powah:
i7 4790K: Quad-core, 4.0 GHz, 8MB cache, 8 threads
[or]
i7 5820K: Hexa-core, 3.3 GHz, 15MB cache, 12 threads

Basically, speed vs cache size.
In this case, this or this.
And yes, I realize I'm not running anything that would utilize 6 cores. Disregarding that spec.

My current socket is only LGA 1156, and the CPU is going to dictate the motherboard. (1150 or 2013-v3)

Thoughts? This 2.8 GHz i5 is making my GTX 780 feel unfulfilled.. :/

If i were you, i would stay with the i7 4xxx. I have a i7 4770 non k and after months of research, this was the best choice for gaming/video encoding.

Now if your going to do lots of video encoding, the i7 5xxx series would be your best bet because of the multiple cores.

For gaming, the 4790k is all you need. Just get a ssd, 32GB of ram and your current video card is sufficient.

Save up money now. DDR4 is expensive and not many boards out there are stable i heard.
