Hey all, so a friend and I have both downloaded GE:S 4.2.3 from the same source (Gamefront/moddb).

My game seems to run perfectly fine, but his has some strange issues. When he sees my player model, I am "spazzing" all crazy like I'm not looking in the right direction, and it seems that I sporadically become invisible (can't see me at all). It is the same problem whether I am hosting or he is. Bots, maps, gamemode, etc. seem to make no difference. The game will be fine for a random amount of time, then suddenly I disappear. Once my player becomes invisible, if I die (whether from the other player or a bot), his game crashes to desktop. If he is hosting, the server goes down. If I am hosting, his player model just stands wherever it was when I died and the rest of the game goes on as usual (bots continue to work, I respawn, bots can still see and shoot at me). My game hasn't crashed yet, and we compared file sizes and such and they all match up.

EDIT: Also, I still appear on the radar even if my player model is invisible.

Any ideas?

This is obviously not a problem with ges, but with his computer. He likely needs to reinstall the mod, reinstall the source SDK base 2007, and or reinstall steam.

Also watch your latency.
If his latency is very high or goes up and down a lot, it might cause similar issues.

I have this same problem. It's not my computer. I'll host a LAN server, and have this same issue happen every day. It's a brand new install of GE:S.

I've had this issue too for several months. (and I did a new install of GE:S after 4.2.4 was released -- same thing.) I assume it's just nVidia's 310+ drivers being weird.

This happened to me yesterday, AMD card and same drivers I used since November, so I doubt it's just a problem with NVIDIA's drivers / cards.

We are moving off the SDK 2007 baseline soon... this will likely go away with that move.

Good; Valve sure has done a good job trashing up SDK 2007 these past few months.

Knock on wood that they don't trash it again for an extended period of time in the future.
