In-game HUD Hint text not showing for more than 1 frame

SourceMod plugins have the ability to print output to the hint text area, but, for some reason, in GoldenEye: Source, these messages often don't even show, or if they do, it's for a single game frame, making them impossible to read. The sound for their appearance is heard, but nothing more.
