Help - Game won't start at all

Whenever I launch GE: Source, I see the Steam box telling me that Steam is preparing to launch the game and then a brief flash of white followed by nothing - nothing opens at all.

I've tried many things, including verifying the cache, running in compatibility mode, and even deleting the media file (I got past the Valve and "Powered by Source" opening, but it still closes). When it "crashes", i don't get anything telling me that hl2.exe has stopped working or anything like that. It just closes.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you see anything that mentions Valve, something is wrong. GE:S opens with our splash screen, not Valves.

Verify SDK Base 2007 is installed.

Verify GE:S is installed in "Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\gesource"

Make sure you downloaded the latest version of GE:S (as of this, v4.2.1).

If all above is good. Try redownloading GE:S and reinstalling. Suggested download is:

I will add, however, that in my Library and in general, it is referred to as v4.2. Should it say this even if it is 4.2.1?

Yeah it will just say 4.2. Hmm ill have to think about this. Someone might have a solution.
