[ISSUE] GE:S Startup crash 4.2.1
« on: October 03, 2012, 11:18:38 am »

Alright.
I had just posted in anothers topic, trying to hijack it in order to get an answer to this:
Hi!

I'm new to the forums, but not new to the game.
The game used to work for me, my specs are similar,
but i recently had an intense urge to get right back into it.

So i downloaded the 4.2 full client, installed it;
but now I'm having a similar issue.

I tried the -novid -dxlevel81 -autoconfig commands,
I also patched it to 4.2.1, and defraged my Source SDK base 2007.

I've been following other crash reports but the generic fixes i've seen don't seem to be working.

Sorry to hijack your topic..
I should make my own.
But the case felt connected so i thought i'd better say something here first.
I also run on a Windows 7 x64

Any suggestions?
Would you require the MDMP crash log?

Edit:
Also, i got rid of my previous install ages ago, it's all on a different HD  along with the steam it used so i'm sure it didn't have an effect on this.

Anndd i realised, that maybe riding on someone elses topic was a bad idea.
So, I'm making a new one for my problem. And sorry, for trying that.

Here are my CPU specs:

Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz
RAM: 8 gig
System type: 64-bit op system
Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack 1
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti

And by default, I am using Directx11

Here is a copy of my latest MDMP Crash file
Note: I put it into a Rar file because : "Allowed file types: txt, doc, pdf, jpg, gif, mpg, png, zip, rar"

Edit:
Changed the topic, before it was [CRASH], i forgot to read the forum rules for these topics, sorry.
Secondly the ISSUE itself is that i crash on startup, right after it has the LOADING right before the menu. I reread what i said and realized i never clarified that.

I started pokeing around in the files, rarely i can solve issues by seeing what works with what,
see what happens when i take things out and open the game. (at least, with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)
Seems the main menu is reliant on Fmodex, crashes before it hits the original spot it crashed at before.

Of course, i have no idea what that file is, i assumed it were a script for things and probably doesn't matter, but i'm just making observations here XD

Gonna try uninstall / reinstall with a differently sourced client install files, maybe it got corrupted at some point.

Not sure if this is counted as normal, but it seems whenever i download an installation of 4.2.1
It decides to fail the first few times, and then randomly wants to work the third or fourth time.

Anyone else have this happen?

Thinking that might be part of the issue, so i'll try installing an earlier version and patching up to 4.2

Alright guys, considered this topic nulled / fixed
I reinstalled it with 4.2.1,
i looked closer and realized i previously installed 4.2 then patched it and tried all those commands. (as opposed to this new installation of 4.2.1)

It had the same problem during installation, but otherwise for some reason performed fine.
I also reinstalled Source SDK 2007 for it.

Sorry for wasteing your time guys, but i hope this helps anyone else who browses for answers.
