Porting GoldSRC maps to Source
(1/1)
namajnaG:
Hey folks, I've been looking into porting GoldSRC maps into Source, However the methods are quite long, And before doing this, I was wondering if anyone here had experience with porting GoldSRC maps to Source.
Does it give decent results?

I don't think the process it TOO lengthy. The real major thing is getting all the bitmap textures from GoldSrc into Source's VTF format. Stuff like brush architecture shouldn't be too major. However, you'll probably have to rebuild any triggered events from scratch with Source Hammer's I/O system.
Wait so scratch that, it probably is a lengthy process.

Well, It probably is less long than remapping the whole thing, The map I want to port isn't too bulky on entities or textures, I might as well replace them since GoldSrc textures are like... 64x64? That would look pretty ugly in Source.
If you say brushes will most likely be intact, That's all right with me, I will give it a go! Thanks for the answer.
EDIT : Well, Turns out the map misses out a bunch of solids and a lot of them has been created out of no where, It ain't worth it. I wanted to convert "The Edge" from Quake II (Q2DM1), But didn't work out too well.

Doesn't look to complicated geometry wise. You possibly could recreate this map on source faster then messing with converting/exporting/importing etc. till you got a usable result.
namajnaG:
Oh, It isn't. I just really suck at making round stuff and getting the scale of a map right. :P
