Split Screen Option Wanted

I was playing with some devs last night and I threw out an idea but I just wanted to post it here so it's not forgotten.
My idea was that it would be cool if we could view 4 or more players at once while spectating. You can already view one player so it didn't seem far fetched that a split screen option was possible. I think spectating would be a little more interesting. This would bring us as close as possible to "screen watching" except you can't do it while playing...or can you? I wouldn't want to play this way all the time but what if we setup our server (1138) for only 4 player matches and made it a split screen? If only for the nostalgia. I know there is talk about getting another server for only 4 player matches so this might be fun.

It certainly is possible, and with computers these days probably not unrealistic, but the source engine is really good at optimization. Basically I would have to turn off all network optimization to make split screen work properly, which would increase lag for everyone.

Would that also apply to spectating? It'd be pretty awesome to have a 4 player split screen spectator mode.

Yea and if the split screen still causes lag in spectator mode could it be added to Source TV? This would make watching tournaments more interesting.

I really don't see the point of making split screen. Especially if its going to create more issues. If you wanna play split screen just turn on the good ol' n64.
