Motherboard killed, Suggestions?
namajnaG:
Well, It had to happen. I've been running on a P5KPL-AM EPU for a year and a half. You can't expect much from a 50$ board.
I need suggestions for a new board that supports the same thing, But that is more reliable and has room for 6GB or more total memory.
Specs :
-socket 775 Intel
-800MHz memory frequency
-1PCI-e (Obviously) and 4 SATA ports (One IDE port would be cool too, But not neccesary)
From your previous experiences, Would you recommend a board that has these specs? Price does not matter, As long as its reasonable.
(I'm writing on my cellphone so grammar/spelling may not be right.)
Proxie:
You should at least use 1333MHz RAM

No, I would upgrade to the 1155 socket and get an i5 2500k.

Good luck finding a 775 motherboard. Mine died, luckily there was a guy in town selling a nice MSI one. Quickly flipped it and got a 1155.
Really the only 775 motherboards that will be left should be good ones. Anything Asus for 775 is pretty good. Can't remember the MSI I got, but was nice.

^ Image of it. Says Acer, cause was out of a Acer gaming PC. Built by MSI.
I had a DFI LANParty LT X38-T2R 775 board, and hated it. Was super picky and didn't like a lot of SATA devices.
I would have a agree with Proxie. Really would just get something cheap and start working at a new PC. Only cost me $430 for all new mobo, cpu, and Ram. Would be even cheaper now.

Well, I'm currently on the hunt for a job, I'll turn 18 in 3 days so I need to find something quick, So maybe I'll look more into building an 1155/1156, Depending on the price, Because indeed, 775 are getting pretty discontinued everywhere, But I'd probably sell that old machine for a few hundreds if I find a new board. I agree too since I abusively multi-task and 4GB of RAM and an somewhat aging video card (ATI 5670) is nothing for all I'm running at the same time.
What kind of config are you talking about Major, Exactly?
major:
All I needed was a mobo, Ram, and CPU.
Picked up:
MSI P67A-GD65
Intel Core i5-2500K
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600
Was $429.97.
Key to get couple extra dollars off is to look at the combo items. Newegg had the mobo/CPU combo I wanted and was $25 off the price. They combo the hottest items, so odds are you can save $10-30.
But you should be able to find a 775 pretty easy, just might take a little while as most major retailers don't sell them. So might have to resort to Ebay, or smaller companies. But call local shops and check craigslist, might get lucky. I got my replacement for $60 (I believe) off craigslist, and was RMA brand new.
Good luck, and happy early birthday.
