A good number of you will by now know what Dear Esther is, some of you may not.

In short, it's an interractive narrative-driven exploration 'game' that runs on the Source 2011 engine. For those of you who appreciate the beauty of an intriguing story or concept, or this one's for you.

It started as a Source mod as part of an experimental university project a few years ago. Now it's an independent commercial title that's launching on Steam on Feb 14th.

It is perhaps one of the most important games that will be released in 2012. Important because it dares to push the boundries of what games can and cannot be. Important because the first person genre is stagnating with unoriginal concepts and stale designs. Important because it's a landmark success of indie gaming. Important because it's a testament to the modding community. Important because it's doing something that has simply not been done before.
