It's slightly easier than it looks... after you get so far, so long as you evenly distribute the weight of the coins, the weight and interlocking placement of the coins work with the large, flat surface area of the coins, the fact that it expands outwards adds stability to it because an exponentially larger mass is weighing down on the lower section that prevents it from leaning.
