TimeSplitters: Source?
« on: April 26, 2011, 07:52:59 pm »

Since Goldeneye Source has been such a huge hit, why not make a TimeSplitters Source?

Most of the Goldeneye team worked on it, it uses a very similar control interface (health and armour bars are identical) and it is possibly one of the greatest games ever made.

According to Wikipedia: "The TimeSplitters series is often compared to GoldenEye because of its many throwbacks to that game and similar developers. For example, both TimeSplitters 2 and GoldenEye start off on a Siberian dam. However, some say that the game plays and feels too much like GoldenEye." but it is still "the best split-screen multiplayer-focused first-person shooter ever created" according to IGN.

Um, because it takes years of unpaid work and hardcore dedication to produce anything for a freely distributed mod? In ~6 years we're just finishing up the multiplayer portion of GES. And we're only about halfway through art-wise (maps, characters, etc).

How about you start a TimeSplitters mod?

I would do it myself but I dont have time. I was thinking that because TS was so similar to GE that it could use the mechanics that have already been made, but use different maps, weapons and characters. It could even be done as an addon to GE source.

ROFL.

Allthough the TS series (and PD) is much closer to Goldeneye then any other commercial game, there are also a lot of differences to Goldeneye -  to many to do a simple add-on.

While replacing the characters would be doable, adding new weapons (not only visually change them) requires coding.

If you ask me, the only reason for doing a TS2/TS3 mod would be online multiplayer.

It would be cool to have a Timesplitters multiplayer, but no doubt it would use the Goldeneye Source mechanics in which case it would just be Goldeneye Source in a different outfit. I'd rather you carried on with Goldeneye Source personally, I'm very excited at the possibilty of bots coming to the mod.

We should remake every game that ever came out on Source.

Personally I'm looking forward to Flightmare: Source.

.... Does nobody remember Flightmare!?

Tuppence, make your own custom monkey character model. That will solve the problem.
