Hi everyone,

I would like to setup a server to use for playing GES with people (mainly friends far away).

I have ready a bunch of tutorials on the web but i'm not getting anywhere - i keep facing various errors.
This is one of the tutorials i followed http://dev.goldeneyesource.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_Server but when i tried running the hldsupdatetool.exe command it just seemed to stop halfway thru?


I have a computer which I can dedicate just for this task so if anyone can help me start from scratch so I dont miss any steps then I would be very grateful.

I have 2 questions first tho. Would I be better using XP or linux (ubuntu pref) for this task.
Also would I need 2 steam accounts and 2 copies of HL2 for this - one to 'serve' and one to play from my other computer?

Please refer to the latest version of the install guide here: http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/Beta3_Server_Install (although the title says Beta 3, it's actually for Beta 4)

Furthermore I think you only need 2 accounts not 2 copys of a Source game, but I'm not sure. (I believe the client operating as the dedicated server shouldn't need to buy the game)

I have never hosted a dedicated server myself, I'm just trying to help. ;-)

I don't know why the general public has access to the "dev" wiki... its outdated and not useful

Thanks for the links, sorry if this is a stupid question but where do i get the 'GES beta 4 server files'?
