In game sound and music way too quiet
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:20:52 am »

Can't see this mentioned anywhere, but both me and my brother have noticed that the menu sound and music is twice the volume of the game's sound and music. The menu volume is OK and matches pretty much with everything else I play on the PC, it's the in game volume that seems to be too quiet. Strange thing is, when the menu first loads up and the music starts, when you click on "options", the volume for the menu drops to match the in game volume... weird huh. I couldn't see this mentioned anywhere and so thought I should mention it, I apologise if you already knew.

Music and SFX in games are rarely on the same levels... Really it boils down to personal preference.

Personally I have my Effects at 35% and my music at 60%.

If you have hardware acceleration on your windows sound settings at full it may be affecting sound levels...

The volume going down when bringing up the options is a Windows bug feature.
Make sure this setting is set to "Do nothing" :

I wonder why windows shipped with anything but "Do Nothing" selected. Didn't they know it would cause problems in video games that used the mic? I'll never understand them...

+1

I also wish my webcam's mic didn't conflict with my desktop mic whenever it [the cam] is plugged in.

In your speaker/mic options in Windows you can set the priority with which audio devices are used. I have it set to check my front audio port then my back one, so I'm normally using my back one for headphones then when I plug my speakers in it automatically switches over to the front port. Should work the same for your webcam.
