[Suggestion] Colour-blind HUD

(1/4) > >>

Mangley:
The thought struck me tonight. Goldeneye: Source has an excellent and very intuitive HUD... but is it colour-blind friendly?

I can't think of any mods off the top of my head that have actually made any considerations for colour-blind players. I think it would be great if GE:S could be one of the first to have a colour-blind mode, just like GE:S was the first to have achievements.

I know that red can be very problematic in many types of colour-blindness and it's a fundamental colour in the HUD as the crosshair and parts of the health display. Whereas certain shades of blue can be seen by virtually all the different types of colourblind people.

Here's a useful page.

This too.

Poorly photoshopped example:

Just a thought really, I understand it's not a necessity...

Enzo.Matrix:
OMG!  You spelled colour correctly.

We will need to find a few test subjects..  I don't see a huge issue in adding a feature for colour blind. So far I don't think we have had any complaints.

Good idea; Options never hurt.

killermonkey:
Only thing we need is a colour blind person or two to give us the specific feedback we'd need.

Modifying the color set is extremely easy. Images like the health bars is more challenging but doable.

Although, until I see complaints its not worth the time.

kraid:
There are not many commercial games with color blind support, too.
So far we had no complains about this, allthough i think the biggest issue could be the radar blips.
Things like crosshair or even healthbar will be noticable for color blinds too, just in a different color.
Even someone who cannot differe red-green should be able to see a red dot on the green radar, because it's more oparc.
It would be an issue for them if we'd use red and green dots at the same time.
For other kinds of color blindness idk, but i'm sure if there'll ever be someone complaining, we could offer him/her a quick fix for the radar (some kind of color blind patch).

Since you seem to know something more about this topic Mangley, maybe you would be interrested in doing a colorblind patch for the radar blips. You allready did some weapon skins, so adjusting a few colors won't be a hard task for you, right?
