Weird story. What I don't get is that they seem to be just making or taking arbitrary words to replace American ones that are in common use. Surely there must be better choices, like maybe real French words. What's wrong with rumeur?

The trick is to say English words with an absurdly strong French accent. That's all they need to do.  :P

Also, we've appropriated so many French terms, phrases and words into the English language, some of them are just coming full circle in a meta sort of way.
