As for the ip thing. For my linux sever I have to put "+ip 192.168.0.7" in the command line in order for the server to not link into the loopback. I think thats more of a linux issue then anything else though.

I think it may be necessary now.  I helped a friend learn how to put up a server, and it didn't seem to recognize it until we put in the public ip.  Thanks for the link as well.
