I think it's sad... anyone who thinks it's cool is sad. There's no use to having a gold plated anything. An aluminium watch can tell the time just as well as a Gold watch, a plastic pen can write as well as a Gold pen. People who would waste money on this crap don't deserve to be that rich.

If the thin layer of gold plating is copious enough...it may be a decent investment in these hard economic times.  ::)
