For 1) the friends could simply join a server where you can play on.

If we had a huge (and i mean really gigantic) playerbase and a global stats system,
we could considder something like a newbie server.
It could also provide detailed gameplay info and hints.
Once your stats raised above a certain level you are disallowed to join this server.
Even if you drop below this mark again, you won't be acepted.

Like i mentioned before, these are concepts for a perfect world where everyone is playing GES.

I see what you mean now -.-

I thought you meant to seperate servers into a different groups, and players of that group could only play on their respective servers. Like, high-skilled can only play on high servers, medium-skill on medium and high, low-skilled on all three. That was veering towards a MW2-style matchmaker, something I know a lot of people hate.

So yeah...in a perfect world, that'd be an excellent idea. We can all hope, eh? ;)
