Issues with gameinfo.txt when trying to set game directory

(1/1)

Kinky:
So im trying to compile characters for a source mod. Got everything ready for compiling but i need to set the path for the game directory so studiomdl knows where shizz needs to go obv. So i loaded up cmd and ran the line that VDC told me i should run to set the mod path. But it says "cannot find gameinfo.txt" even though gameinfo.txt is present in the folder and the game runs correctly.

Any ideas what im doing wrong?

I haven't worked with studiomdl and by reading
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Compiling_a_model
I think you did everything correctly.
You might try to open it with a shortcut on your desktop containing the exact same line
PATH_TO_ STUDIOMDL.EXECUTABLE -game "<full path to your gameinfo.txt folder>"

and don't forget the quotes, I think they're needed.
Even if that doesn't solve the problem directly it's way easier to try with a shortcut instead of typing/copy-pasting that stuff into cmd each time.

I hope someone who knows how to do it correctly will help you if this advice doesn't.

Jonathon [SSL]:
Use guistudiomdl, it's what a lot of people use and it's not nearly as overcomplicated to use as studiomdl.

@SSL THANKYOU SO FRICKING MUCH! Got the characters compiled. Seems to have gone well. Weapons are proving somewhat more difficult :P
