VC's Laboratory 90830: Video Fail
VC:
Apparently my video card has gone emo. Last night it started throwing texture corruptions at me and then it started drawing sparkles on my desktop and this morning it's drawing regular patterns of text garbage over my POST and I can't get beyond the terminal prompt without the whole system rebooting itself.
I'm completely out of the loop in regard to what's a good deal, so I'm taking advice.
1) Just replacing the video card. No sense in going for power here since Source bottlenecks on the processor.
2) Getting a whole new box on the cheap. It would be an opportunity for more FPS, but I've heard Intel has big things coming in the next year so it may be a dumb time to buy up.
I was on an 8800 GTS, which apparently is extinct, so I don't know what the closest match is, but if I can get the closest match for cheap I'd like to just throw that in and get rolling.

well, all I can really give you to help is an article from Toms Hardware saying the best graphics cards for the money you want to spend for August 2009.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2387-2.html
It has the different price ranges in there. Hopefully, that will help. :)

I'm still running an 8800 GTS and I love it, just buy another on newegg for like $50
VC:
I loved it until it smoked crack.
I tried Newegg, it is deactivated. Otherwise it would be on the UPS truck right now.
CCsaint10:
did you try looking at some of the ones on that website? There are some between 50-70 dollars...unless you already found something you were looking for.
