You can still get XP, and Vista, and others like Server for free, but no W7.

Haha, I get them all for free! It's because of the MS Academic Alliance. My dept. in my university is a member of that.

where can you get that from?

I got XP and Vista for Free through something called MSDNAA.
It's a offer of variouse M$ products for free if you're a student.
I think they're doing it because they wanna make you use their products from the start.
