Any advice for our website
« on: July 02, 2009, 01:52:38 am »

Here I am the fuc....  king of overposting lol.

No seriously, My friend and his friend and I are building a website and the forum to fix people's pc's. We are currently working on the website, well I am actually doing all the work while they are playing Source games haha. Our site will be used to promote like Computer Repair Services. Prices, services and what we do will be on the page. The forum will be like used for the public and local. We will do In-home repair 2/3 of geek sqaud price. So we are going to kick their ass.

I changed the forum theme to a Vista/Windows 7 look and I was told it looks very nice and flows with the forum pretty well.

Here is the link to our website

http://www.korecomputer.com/

The main page is still being fight over whether we install Joomla or build ourselves a HTML page.

I used joomla in the past and it was pretty fun and exciting to use. It just eats a lot of bandwidth, because there is so much pages to flip through.

Another thing, I wanted to know what is the best way to get traffic through our forum? How long did it take to get this forum traffic?

I created a site map and let Google handle the crawling crap.however, i did not create any meta tags, which would help a considerably a lot and get out site in the google search index.

Any ideas what I can implement? Will a forum portal be cool looking too? I though about it, but I said let me keep it like this, then when people start visiting often, I might change the look.

Thanks for all the help.

The logo was created by my friend. I was like damn that is very nice.

If your planning on trying to make money off this, I'd suggest taking up adds on cragislist, and maybe add one or two in your local newspaper.  Make sure your trying not to look desperate, and if you have any certifications or anything be sure to show them, if not it would help you now, and in the future to look into getting certified.

Here is a old buddies old website he had for his small local fix-it type thing:

http://www.camstrike.com/

I would take a look at that and get some ideas. Maybe be like him and offer pickup repair, and offer a support cd with programs a "noob" could use, ya know like spybot and programs like that, and on the cd you could include a shortcut to your forum for on demand support.

And I would make a email/forum your secondary way of contact, a phone is a lot easier and specially if there computer is down and they see your add in the paper, a quick call for live support.

Good luck

As for the website. I am in the camp of "minimal amount of design to present meaningful information"

Check out the website that I run for my Uncle (PM'd to you). It's not the best design, but it gets the point across and a lot of non-computer (read old) people use it every day without any trouble.
