[For beta 3.0] How to Fix Server Issues
« on: March 05, 2009, 07:36:08 am »

This is for Server Hosts only, not Client side.

Quote
Since Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat: Source are on a separate Orangebox engine depot that is incompatible with MODs, we've added a new hldsupdatetool entry to sync to the old files.  So if your running a MOD and need to use the old TF 2 engine and dedicated server depots, use the game name "orangebox".  There is also an entry named "episode1", in case you need to download the engine and dedicated server files for an EP1 MOD.

OK, valve released an update today to fix all the server issues, that people have been reporting repeatedly on our Mod, and many others. All you need to do is update srcds using orangebox as the game.

Windows:
Code: [Select]
hldsupdatetool -command update -game orangebox -dir [Install Dir] -verify_all

Linux:
Code: [Select]
./steam -command update -game orangebox -dir [Install Dir] -verify_all

Let the games begin, and lets get back to playing some GoldenEye: Source!

Full guide can be found here: http://wiki.goldeneyesource.net/index.php/Beta3_Server_Install

Sincerely,
Team GoldenEye: Source

yes, if your server is correctly updated using the dedicated server patch i made as shown on the wiki.

thankfully a newer trick in the gameinfo.txt allows the that old copy step to be skipped. (it will instead use hl2 folder thats in the original position directly)

Nice, now we can expect to see a debut of 3.1 sometime soon...and maybe all those lame people who left will come back when they see the new patch......why are some people so ignorant and just think the game is broke forever if something with servers goes wrong...I hate it when they don't check the forums to find information about it and just assume its the mod. *cough*roommate*cough*

Installed orangebox, unpacked gesource, updated gameinfo.txt and added steam.inf. Get dropped within 2 minutes of joining.

Started up a release-day install, unpatched. Works fine. Players.

Unless I missed something, this is still no good. Maybe it needs a different AppID. Maybe it's still VALVed.

If someone can't get their server going, try throwing this over what you've got, and undoing any patching you've done:

Nice, I'm glad they got this fixed.  I'm going to try a fresh install when I get home tonight and see if the issues are resolved.

Cool, updating my servers as I post.  One question though, I had applied the dedicated server patch (gesource_ded_patch.zip) to my client as well (as this was the only way I could connect to my patched server).  Will I need to reverse those changes on my client? Or will it need to stay?

i reversed it and i got the No Steam Log On again...might have something to do with the updating shutting itself down @ 95%?

gesource_ded_patch.zip is still needed by all clients and servers that is until the next update for the mod is released.

valves update just removes the stupidity of having to copy old files over the newer server files to allow players to join, they fixed nothing else.

No, i think what this means is that when our 3.1 patch is released the necesary inclusions will be there to bypass the need for the "dedicated server patch" to be used by servers and clients.

Personally tho, i am still confused a little at what this update does. I used to be a pro at serverhosting ep1 engine :( OB hosting imo is for teh fail. Mods should just have their OWN app, like "mod dedicated server" so these conflicts with their commercial stuff doesnt occur, but MEH that'd make too much sense..
