I can't even launch GE:S anymore, is anyone else having this problem?  I could play a few days ago, even after the Valve update, but now I can't get anything.

No. The Valve update only affects dedicated servers, not the client software. If you can't launch the game, that sounds like a local problem. Could be any number of things, but the update isn't one of them.
