Sniper Rifle
« on: February 14, 2009, 02:05:20 pm »

This is a suggestion that wouldn't fit the thread started to give suggestions for Beta 4 because I think it is something that will take more time.

As you know, the sniper rifle in GoldenEye 007 was supposed to be modeled after the Walther WA2000, in the same way the DD44 Dostovei was supposed to be modeled after the TT pistol, more precisely the TT-33 chambered for the 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge.
The result was, in the first case, a generic bolt-action sniper rifle and in the second case, a generic "blocky" pistol (according to VC).

What I propose is that the sniper rifle model is changed to go in accordance with the Walther WA2000 sniper rifle in the same way you did with the DD44 Dostovei.

Thoughts, opinions and everything else related: feel free to post them here.

Interesting, I always thought it looked more like the M-21. The sniper rifle has similarities to the Walther too, though. Neither gun looks exactly like GE's.

I'd say the Klobb looks like a Škorpion machine pistol.

I'm sorry if I did not explain myself correctly; what I meant was that the sniper rifle was supposed to resemble the Walther WA2000; that was Rare's initial intention, I guess. The final model resembles the M-21 as you said, Luchador. All I was trying to say was that it could be modele after the initial intention of Rare and not any other rifle or a general bolt-action one.

I don't imagine it will or should stray from what it actually is in GE007.

Edit:
I predict a simultaneous post...

I was simply giving the suggestion, seeing what happened with the DD44.

It is an opinionated thread. ::)

Guess that simultaneous post isn't happening.

Ooh, 222nd post.

Huh. Wonder when that happened. (I imagine at post #200.)

Hehe. Every opinion is valid, but perhaps I was defending mine too much. Sorry for that.
Still waiting to hear from the devs though. :D

It wont change is your official answer. We agreed having it be its own type of look is what we really enjoy.

Your dd44 argument is sorta of different. Pistols generally have been handled as "make this look like the real gun", I believe simply because a pistol is smaller and the more you can detail it with patterns and marking and give it a real flavor the better.

Large weapons that looked iconic in GE64 have been more so replicated and updated if you delve into our design. Rather than saying, wheres the real world reference? we slam some nostalgia your way, which i love personally. I'm sure 30 or 40 people will share your viewpoint, but I dont think that is valid enough to reverse our design choice.

Ok then. I was merely expressing my opinion, although the original DD44 did not look like the TT pistol at all.

I understand your point of view; the iconic weapons, along with their visuals should stay unaltered. If that is the dev team decision, then it is ok. I agree with it.

@Rodney: You are a 00 Agent since your 200th post.

If you want to lock this, go ahead. There is no point in continuing this discussion since the sniper rifle will not be altered.

It looks more like a Ruger 10/22 with a custom stock.

Who says my DD44 is blocky?... And I did model the DD44 after the TT33, just to be clear.
