Alright, i got a update to show. Know the glitches, i know why on earth should i add them? gives it that classic look, and besides the map already looks just like the N64 version.Here are some shots:

I liked the textures from top version set more than the bottom version set since the second version textures end up drawing attention to the map and I expect it to be a distraction, so it will make it harder to follow the player and looks less finished in the process. I didn't play it on n64 so the original version doesn't have much sentiment to me though.

yea, use the cloud prop but with a slightly green-ish skybox.
For the new look, i dislike it. Misaligned and oversized textures are anything but fine.
The old aligned textures were far better.
You should aim for a minimalistic cold look, instead of "OMG all textures are fucked up".
If you wanna confuse the player you can do a lot easier and better with nodrawing everything
