Over christmas after hearing about a million forums posts asking how well someone's pc will play crysis the dev team and ea decided to take it into their own hands. They had $900 and the goal to set out and prove they could play crysis on a computer built with that money. Their result was a pc that costed $875 - shipping that could play crysis on high graphics settings at 1280x780.

The Message

With this experiment we have shown that Crysis runs smoothly and provides and amazing, unparalleled performance on High settings and on an affordable machine that is readily available today.

We know most of you already have a great base to work with, so compare your current hardware with the setup mentioned above and consider an affordable upgrade – you do not have to purchase a new machine. Crysis is very scalable and looks great on Medium settings compared to current next-gen games.

If you wish for proof they have videos on the forum link that show how well it performed.

Ya I can see what you mean but it is nice to know a $900 computer can play this game compared to the speculation that you need a $2000 computer.

Seems sketchy, since they say "parts from all over the world" but then its one currency....figuring its USD? just weird

switching from a decent 2005 era single core, to a dual/quad core for dx10 is a FULL upgrade of key components for me..

- CPU (obviously)
- GFX (no point going upgrade if you got less than 8600's)
- MOBO (needed in ALL cases of old mobo, they arent compatible with new shit)
- RAM (better specs, or your new gfx and cpu get raped from weak ram specs)
- OS (a number of people claim XP runs better in high quality than vista in high qual ..lol bunch of XP extremist propaganda if you ask me)

So see, not a "small" upgrade

This wasn't an upgrade it was a built from scratch pc, which I need to do anyways so it gives me some what of an idea on some parts I was thinking of getting and how it will run games. Of course pc's are going to cost a lot duh that is just common sense.

Well if you are already going to build a new pc and you want it to last more than a year and play games then $900 is just basically a base. I know a lot of us are still using our pc's that we had when Half-life 2 first came out, the only difference between then and now is maybe a new graphics card and some ram, but otherwise the same thing.

honestly, this is my system

MOBO: Asus m2n8-vmx
CPU: AMD athlon x2 dual core 3600+ @ 2.3ghz
RAM: 1.5gb (1x 1gb + 1x 512mb) kingston 667mhz ram
GFX: Leadtek 8600gt 512mb
HDD: wester digital 80gb ide (soon upgrading to SATA 250gb)

all up probably around $500 australian but i left out a few things there but they would all add up to about 75 bucks

i think if i went and bought crysis it would run absolutely fine on my system on medium settings, for other ppl maybe not coz 85% of ppl have their computer set up like retards with so much spyware and SHIT and gay useless programs that they install when they buy their computer on it that it runs half as fast as it should. Anyway i'd be happy with it running on medium.

But the point is if you had no PC then you'd need to buy/build one, so therefore, it would not be crazy to buy a PC that can handle upcoming games, since that's what you'll primarily be doing, presumably.  I didn't spend more than $500 on mine almost 20 months ago and I can run Crysis on high settings (in dx9) immaculately.  It doesn't look much better than Far Cry on dx9 so I don't quite understand the point of their $900 argument ending with M$ XP...
